Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Dominguez.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I got my real estate license in 2012. At this time, the market was flooded with Foreclosures and investors, all who were bidding against each other in a grab for cheap deals. It took me three months to close my first deal and I believe the sales price was about $30,000 for a condo in Hialeah. The commission was not great but the process of hunting down properties and out negotiating other agents was a rush. Currently, I have closed over 150 transactions and helped a lot of great families into a new home.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I read somewhere that the failure rate in new real estate agents is about 80%. Add a troubled market and that margin is slimmer. It takes patience and dedication to your craft, to even begin to get comfortable in real estate.
Initially learning to manage my time and expectations, as well as goal setting were some of my biggest challenges. Later in my career setting bigger goals and sticking to them even when all I saw were roadblocks or it took longer than expected to achieve those goals.
On a day to day, there are naturally going to be fires to put out, every deal will come with its own challenges, knowing how to calmly react and always putting your client’s best interest first is key to getting past them.
Alright – so let’s talk business. What else should we know about you and your career so far?
Luis is a high-performance real estate agent ranked in the top 10% within Douglas Elliman which is a top brokerage nationwide. His clients describe him as patient but fast, understanding, and always available. He has sold properties all over South Florida representing buyer and sellers equally.
As a real estate agent, you work under a brokerage but are still an independent contractor. Working at Douglas Elliman has accelerated my career and helped me tap into the luxury market, having the DE brand on your back definitely helps open the right doors.
At this point in my career, I am working almost exclusively in the luxury market, I joined Douglas Elliman in 2017. I currently represent various real estate developers building luxury waterfront homes from Miami Beach to Lighthouse Point and plan to continue to grow within the luxury sector.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always like to help people and always see the bigger potential in any situation. I’ve always tried to see how much better I can make whatever it is that I’m doing at the time.
I like to think that I am a natural salesman, growing up I had a lemonade stand, resold candy in elementary… the whole thing.
