Thanks for sharing your story with us Liz. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always loved the beauty industry for as long as I can remember. As a child, in Middle school, I used to do my eyebrows and wear lip gloss. So it was only natural for me to take on the beauty industry as a career. I Started doing Hair in High school. As a young adult, I really got into doing makeup and became a freelance MUA. Soon after I started working for Ulta Beauty, and became one of the store managers. I soon realized that I wanted to have my own business. The time I spent working for someone else I could have been building a brand of my own. So I ended up leaving the job, with the support of my wonderful husband, stepping out on faith, and birthing my Business Lizzy’s Beauty Barr and Boutique in 2017.
We started off making Custom closure Lace wigs and selling Lace frontal Wigs, Full Lace, Bundles, closures, etc. I launched my cosmetics Line, Pixie Dust Cosmetics LLC in April 2018. it is a vegan and Cruelty-Free cosmetics line featuring highly pigmented eye shadow and glitter palettes, Matte lipsticks, Liquid Eyeliner, and more. In June 2019 we launched our three step lace application system which has been Huge for us. The formula is absolutely amazing, its humidity, water-resistant and works great for oily and perspiration prone skin. Stylists love the formula and have been raving about it all over the US. We have shipped our lace products to Canada, Bahamas, UK, Italy, and others. Our Products are available in 4 Beauty Supplies in Fl, a hand full of beauty salons, and we now have a distributor in the Bahamas. We plan on expanding even more in 2020.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, as with anything we do there are trial and error. We learn from our mistakes, which then causes the growth to come. I would have to say getting my brand recognized known and recognized. I’m not popular on Social media, nor am I great with marketing. However, I know my products, I know that they work, and people need to experience using them.
So I had to learn ways to get the attention of my target market, the marketing tools that worked for me and appealed to my audience/customers. Another thing is balance, this is extremely important. I found myself giving so much time and energy to the business that other things in my life took a back seat. I believe that balance in every area of our lives is a key factor.
Lizzy’s Beauty Barr & Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a Lace Specialist and professional Wigmaker. So I specialize in Lace wigs, Frontals, Closures, etc. Not only do I Create and install them. I have a product line made specifically for Lace installs, MY LACE KIT. We have our three Step Lace Application System, Step 1. Let’s Prep which is used to prepare your hairline to ensure a clean surface to apply our adhesive. Step 2. Is our Quick-Grip Ultimate Hold Lace Glue, its formulated to be a water and humidity resistant adhesive that works great on oily and perspiration prone skin, when properly installed will last between 2-4 weeks. Step 3. Lace OFF is our citrus oil base remover created to effortlessly remove your lace without leaving glue or residue, which will preserve your lace.
We have our HER Scalp Lace conceal cream Palette with ten shades to match every skin tone, and our Her Scalp powder Compaq, these are used to color the bald cap method, the inside of your lace and to define the part. Our STYLE Foaming Mousse is perfect for laying down the front of the lace, creating the baby hair look pared with our 3 and 1 edge comb, and to define your curly texture hair. Our Wax stick, provides moisture, acts as a heat protectant, and lays down any fly-away hairs.
To finish off the install we have our Lizzy Lace Wraps that will help you with the maintenance of your install and help preserve it. Lizzy’s Beauty Barr is set apart from others because we want to service all women no matter their financial status. We provide women with an option, either to get an install from us or we give them the tools they need to accomplish a flawless install right at home. Not everyone has the luxury to have $150-$250 Lace Installs. MY LACE KIT was created not only for hairstylists but with your every day, hard-working woman in mind.
Our products are beginner-friendly and we provide step by step detailed videos on our YouTube channel on how to use our products to achieve a flawless install. I love to hear and see the reviews of women that have used our products. How they have never tried a glue that works so well, they went swimming and their wig stayed on, or how they sweat so heavy and love how the wig never lifted. Not to mention most are total beginners, but they watched my YouTube videos and were able to complete the install at home on their own! It brings joy to my heart to see that our products are helping so many women who have issues keeping their wig glued down. They have the confidence to install the units on their own and know that it will not move. Making women feel beautiful and helping them build self-confidence has always been a part of who I am.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is having executed and accomplished a goal that you set for yourself, and begin to see the fruit of your labor from that.
