Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Bartlett.
Hi Lauren, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Lauren and in my mid 20’s, I decided to move away from a small town and move to my dream city, Miami. I’ve always had a bigger vision that I wanted in my life and I thought the best way to achieve it, is to push my comfort zone and start over in a different environment. Any time I visited Miami, I felt alive and could see myself building a brand new life here. I wanted to discover parts about myself that I never met before and I knew that was only going to happen by removing myself from the place that shaped me. Throughout the past four years of living here, it has changed me so much as a person and allowed me to discover my own potential. It has challenged me past familiarity and allowed me to completely reinvent myself. Being able to say that I now live in my dream apartment in the city i’ve always wanted is truly surreal.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has most definitely not been a smooth road, but I believe that is the whole point. I know that growth comes with uncomfortable change and I had to be willing to challenge everything I knew to fully embrace this experience. The biggest struggle I faced was losing my identity. I thought that changing who I am was going to be easy, but at the same time it felt like a loss of an old version of myself. To become who I wanted, I also had to be willing to let go. The path I was originally pursuing when I moved here is completely different than where I am now, both personally and professionally. It has been incredibly lonely and isolating, and has taken a long time to settle in. I lost friendships along the way, I received judgement and unwanted opinions, but it taught me to validate myself and stand strong in my own self-belief.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a content creator specializing in personal growth and expansion. My content is centered around solo city living, growth, and lifestyle. I first got into content when I started sharing my own journey of moving away online because I was in a vulnerable place. I felt extremely alone in my decision to move across the country by myself and as I started sharing that online, I started to meet people who have made the same choice. I’m proud to share my voice and story online to help other people pursue a life they envision for themselves. I believe that being authentic and real about what comes with this decision as well as sharing the amazing opportunities and lifestyle, is what sets me apart. I have been honest about every aspect of my journey, good and bad. I was also the first in my family to choose this and I want to serve as inspiration to be the first to break the cycle.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If you are looking to make a similar decision, my best advice is to not wait for the perfect moment. Plan as much as you can, but take the leap as soon as possible. Allow yourself to have a new experience even if it’s just for your 20’s or just for a year. Moving to a new city or state by yourself is an exhilarating experience and it’s common to wait to feel ready. I don’t believe that there is ever a magic moment where everything aligns except for the moment you choose to just go.
Before starting out, I wish someone prepared me for the uncomfortable growth that comes with believing in yourself and building a brand new life. There were many moments that I felt unsupported, judged, or misunderstood, but it was all part of the process. Learn to embrace the discomfort and set yourself up for success before you move. I’ve learned to embrace every aspect because it is all part of the journey!
