Meet Laura Blanco of Catalpa Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Blanco.

Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I graduated from Palermo University in 2009 with degrees in Communication and Advertising, and later started a graduate degree in Architecture at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) and Interior Design at UM.

Since founding Catalpa in 2016, my focus has been on interior design and remodels in collaboration with top architectural studios. In 2018, we launched our first line of furniture in Buenos Aires and subsequently won the first-place award at CASA FOA – the most distinguished design expo in Argentina. That was a great accomplishment for us. Today we offer personalized architecture + home staging and interior design based in Miami.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Living in Argentina and working there is no easy task. There is a lot of talent, but the country’s economic situation is often very complicated. Every roadblock was an apprenticeship, and that brings me to where I am today. In difficult moments, having a good working partner was fundamental and is necessary. This applies in any aspect of life, to have help, to listen and to learn from others. Today I am in Miami, a wonderful city with a lot of potential. Since the moment we started our first interior design jobs, the word of mouth has spread drastically. We are impressed and eternally grateful.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Catalpa Studio?
My passion is transforming our clients’ dreams into reality through simple and organic design. Life has to be simple. I distinguish myself by working in a minimalistic way, with wood, green life and noble materials that accompany the environment. When I listen to what the client needs, I enjoy transforming it and optimizing spaces to achieve functional, cozy and comfortable environments.

In 2019, I had a client that wanted to transform her off-white house into colors. My head was transformed and I became addicted to colors. I still love black, white, nude, but I am madly in love with colors. I began to study what each one is about, how they are composed, their favorable points and I play tirelessly with their infinite combinations. Today at Catalpa Studio, we continue looking for the simplicity of things, and we mark the space with a distinctive seal. We go beyond what is fashionable.

Any big plans?
I plan to continue growing, listening to clients and advising them in the clearest and most transparent way to fulfill their wishes and feel empowered with what they choose. Many times, they do not know how to face a decor project and what we offer is just that, personalized architecture and personalized design in a really personal way. We guide them with the added value of making them feel unique in the process and always taking care of their pocket! (Argentine custom)
