Hi LaKeya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey started long before KM Financial Services Inc. In 2003, I became a Certified Dental Assistant and spent 18 years working in the corporate 9-to-5 world. In 2016, I stepped out on faith and started my first business, Keya Monroe Lace.
In 2021, I entered the tax industry under the mentorship of Candace Hill. I started as a PTIN holder, worked my way through the industry, and eventually became a Reseller Coach. What started as me learning the business quickly grew into me teaching and developing other tax professionals. In my first year as a Reseller Coach, I trained 12 tax preparers, and the following year, I trained more than 50.
Today, I am the CEO of KM Financial Services Inc., where I operate as a Service Bureau under The Tax Pro Software and help tax professionals build legitimate, profitable tax businesses through software, systems, training, mentorship, marketing, and accountability.
My journey has been built on faith, consistency, and being willing to learn before I led. I went from working a corporate 9-to-5 to building businesses and creating opportunities for other people. My ultimate mission is to help others especially women create financial freedom, build generational wealth, and realize that where you start does not determine where you can finish.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been plenty of challenges, setbacks, and moments when I had to question whether I was on the right path. Walking away from a stable corporate career and building businesses from the ground up required me to step outside of my comfort zone and take risks without knowing exactly how everything would turn out.
I’ve experienced loss, disappointments, business challenges, and seasons where things simply didn’t go according to plan. I’ve had to learn how to navigate rejection, remain consistent when results weren’t immediate, and continue showing up even when I didn’t feel like it.
One of my biggest struggles has been learning that growth comes with responsibility. As my business and team grew, I had to grow as a leader too. I had to learn systems, accountability, leadership, compliance, and how to pour into others while still building myself.
But every obstacle taught me something. The struggles didn’t stop me they shaped me. They gave me the resilience, wisdom, and perspective I have today. Looking back, I realize that some of the hardest seasons were preparing me for the level of leadership and success I’m walking in now.
We’ve been impressed with KM FINANCIAL SERVICES INC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
KM Financial Services Inc. is a tax preparation and The Tax Pro Software is a tax business education company focused on helping tax professionals turn their knowledge into structured, profitable businesses. As the CEO and Service Bureau owner, I specialize in providing tax professionals with the software, systems, training, marketing strategies, mentorship, coaching, and support they need to build and grow their businesses.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just hand someone tax software and tell them to figure it out. I believe in teaching the blueprint behind the business—from understanding the tax industry and building a client base to marketing, creating systems, maintaining compliance, and developing strong business practices.
I’m especially passionate about helping people who are ready to move beyond simply preparing returns and want to become business owners and leaders. Whether someone is just entering the industry or is an experienced tax professional looking to take their business to the next level, my goal is to provide the structure and accountability to help them grow.
What I’m most proud of is the community and leadership culture we’ve built. I started as a student in the tax industry, learned the blueprint, applied it, and then began teaching others. Watching tax professionals grow from having an idea to actually operating their own businesses is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What I like best about Fort Lauderdale:
What I love most about Fort Lauderdale is that it feels like home. I’m a Fort Lauderdale native, so there’s a deep connection to the community for me. I love the diversity, the energy, the beautiful beaches, and the fact that there are so many opportunities to build, network, and grow. It’s a city where you can create your own path, and I’m proud to be able to build my businesses here.
What I like least:
If I had to choose one thing, it would probably be the cost of living and the rapid growth. As the city continues to grow, everything seems to get more expensive, and sometimes that growth can make it harder for longtime residents and small businesses to keep up. I’d love to see even more opportunities and resources created specifically for local entrepreneurs and small business owners.
