Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristy Pham
Hi Kristy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We are a family of 9 members, who immigrated to United states of America in 1991 , I was about 6 years old at that time. My parent came here with basically nothing but a lots of hope for our future. During the 90’s , our Asian community was small and not advanced as is it today. They struggled to get a decent job because of the language barrier. Although our community is small but we were very united and always helped each other out. My parent’s friend introduced my parent into this nail industry. At that time it was not as popular as it is now. They started their own salon with just them two working which later on became very successful . Eventually, growing up , all of us were old enough to be able to help with the business. I remembered, during high school years , I spent a lots of time at the salon in the summer. I really love interacting with the customers and just loved the working environment. This is how I learned a lot about the business which helped me a lots later in life.
I started my business in September of 2014 called Venetian Nail Spa on Coral Way, I just turned 30 years old. At that time I was very young and eager to experienced the real world. My nail salon is a franchise so we have structure operations system . Our top priority is always putting our customers first. We always have a strict sanitation rules which our staffs must complied. We had a great amounts of skilled and talented staffs which soon we gained a lots of customer and good reputations in our community .We were thriving and heading in the right direction as every business owner goals and expectations. Unfortunately, in 2020 our nation was hit hard with Covid which had caused a great impact on our business. We soon lost most of our staff and we were struggling for long periods of time. I went through a tough time just trying to keep the business going and recruiting staffs. But I still kept pushing myself harder to be better to help the business recover and get back to where we were. Currently, I am very proud to say that my business is doing great and I am very happy to share this experience to other business owner who are probably going through the same struggles that I went through. Do not give up and keep praying. I want to thank you for hearing my stories .
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We had our ups and downs. Working in the services industries is tough. Reputations is important. I remembered , the first few months of being in business I used to cried when any customers would give us bad reviews or complaint and want their money back. I would always feel like i was not managing the salon good enough or not experienced enough to deal with every different situations. But throughout the years . I have learned a lots and more confident about myself. For sure we will never be able to satisfied everyone but long as we have tried our best to make every single clients happy. The other struggles were always trying to keep all of my staffs happy and united to build a great team. And off course working with all females is not easy. We all have our problems and differences . I had learned that the best solutions is to hear them out, understanding and not pick and choose. We have to be fair with everyone. My mentality is “the key to success is keeping your staffs and clients happy”.
As you know, we’re big fans of Venetian Nail Spa Coral Way. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My salon is Venetian Nail Spa. We are an upscale high end nail salon . We specialize in all nail and skincare services such as manicure, pedicure ,acrylic , dipping, nail art , waxing and facial. Our brand is a franchise with over 40 locations in Florida as well as other sates. We are well known for our customer services and our well kept up to date sanitation procedures. What sets us apart from our local is we offered wide variety of gel colors, dipping powders . We have hundreds of selection to choose from. We only used disposable tools such as file , buffer and pedicure liner. We do not reused such items for hygiene purposes. We have been using a autoclave similar to doctor and dentist equipment to sanitized every tools after each used. We are not afraid to invest into any new equipment or product to keep our client safe and to ensure them that that are safe coming to our salon. We always strive to provide our customer with great services and we always listen to their needs. I want our reader to know that they will have a great experience every time coming in for service. We also offers reward points for discounts. We have a great front desk team who will always tried their best to remembered our clients name and will always make you feels welcome. At Venetian Nail Spa our clients are always our top priorities.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My risk taking I would have to said is starting this business out of my Asian community. As you know in Miami there is not a lots of Asian .who are specialize in this nail industry. So staffing was a big issues at the beginning of my establishment. Another issues was the language barrier. I did not know any Spanish and our location has a great population of Spanish speaker. I overcome these issues within the first year of my business being established. I started to learned Spanish everyday just by interacting with my clients . I soon was able to blended in with the community and soon only working with the Spanish speaker staffs. I think if was not patience and eager to learn about other culture , I would have not became who I am today. I now reflected on my career and see a very similarity with my parents journey into this nail industry. I am always thankful for the experiences that I had and learning from them.
