Today we’d like to introduce you to Kintisa “SKYGOAT” Hallmon.
Hi Kintisa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since I was three years old, I was always fascinated by the entertainment industry. I knew I wanted to act, sing, or dance…if I could do all 3 that’s what it was going to be. I spent the majority of my childhood dancing and acting in several plays and productions. I then went to college at Florida A & M University in 2017 where I decided to further my career and study Theatre Arts, however, I did not have a minor picked out yet, and since they told me I had until the end of my sophomore to decide I wasn’t in a rush to pick one.
Originally, I was thinking of choosing health, leisure, and fitness but quickly realized that was not my passion. During my freshman year, I was a part of a promotion group at the time. This promotion group was notorious for having a lot of members in it, mostly freshmen. If you were a freshman and wanted to get into free events that was the group to be me. However, I hated to be a number, I hate to fit in because I’ve never fit in anywhere I am. I also didn’t have time to get a job because my theatre studies were so demanding. During my time in this promotion group, we were given an opportunity. Every ticket we sold we would get a dollar from each sale. I ended up selling about 50-60 tickets. That was cute lol but me being who I am I sat and did the math.
Tickets were selling for $20 meaning if I sold 50-60 tickets the promoter just made $1000-$1200 off of me selling tickets for me to turn around and only get 5% profit, yeah, I was not having that. So, I said to myself I need to find a way to make real money so I can still focus on my studies. So that’s when it came to me “MY WEEKLY ALLOWANCE”. My mom will probably get upset after hearing this, mom loves you, however, I used to take my allowance money and stack it up for 2-3 weeks and when it came time for the promoter to drop tickets I would go and buy them at regular price when they first drop because that’s usually when they are the cheapest. I did this because people usually don’t jump right on tickets for events until the week or night before, by being ahead of the game I was putting people in a position to have to buy tickets from me.
It got so bad that the promoter had to start announcing in our group chats I have no more tickets please see Sky for tickets. I was selling tickets for $5 more sometimes double the price of the ticket and they had no choice but to pay it because they were not missing the event. This became my thing for a good school year. The hate and jealousy were very real, this was the height of FAMU Twitter and if you did not have thick skin FAMU Twitter was not for you. I hate to say it but I was a part of FAMU Twitter Culture at times feeding into the toxicity. However, I never really took into consideration what anyone said until this one particular incident. I was going back and forth with a person who didn’t even deserve my energy however one thing she said struck me. She addressed me as an “overzealous ticket buyer”. That one tweet single-handedly changed my life forever.
I fell completely off the radar, not because that comment hurt me or I was embarrassed simply because she was right it was time for me to elevate to the next step, I was grinding and thinking mode. During my hiatus, many promotions teams reached out to me to join í respectfully declined. As I got older, I realized I had to start moving with a purpose, my actions from that point on had to have a motive behind them. I wasn’t just joining things just to join if it didn’t benefit me or had my best interest it was not for me. I fell out with plenty of people during this time as well because I felt they were not aligning with my goals and mission.
One particular day, I was on Twitter and I saw my brother DJ Jam post that he was DJing at an event I noticed lately that a lot of his events had this wolf logo on it so in my head I thought okay this has to either be Jam’s group or whoever is over these events he is cool with. Talked to my brother Jam about what I’m trying to do and how I’m trying to expand on this new interest I have discovered and he basically gave me the green light, of course with caution signs and warnings, but ultimately, I was given the green light to reach out to this wolf person. Ended up scheduling a meeting with the “wolf person” had no clue who he was, what his name was nothing I just called him “wolf person”. It wasn’t until I got to the meeting that I found out his name was Floyd and the promotion team’s name was Wolfpack Ent, NoCrowdControl.
During my meeting, I took two of my friends, one being my sister Leia Ambrister. My sister and I met when we were in 5th grade and we have been locked in ever since. During college, we did everything together. Frick and Frack. I said that to say when one is being humble the other is overselling the talents and skills of the other. In this meeting, Leia explained from A to Z to this man who I was, what I do, my skills, and resumes I mean to the T. He didn’t say much but “okay cool” and then gave me the task of bringing at least 10 people to the club. Leia cut him off and said she’ll bring 20 and, in my head, I’m like girl he said 10 that’s all I need to bring but she insisted that I would bring more than he said to so I could show him my full potential.
That night for the event I ended up bringing a list of 40 students from campus. This was huge because the promotion team had gone on a hiatus to deal with campus life. After such success, I not only got invited back to officially join the team but I was hired as the TV personality of WOLFPACK TV. This job meant the world to me because even though I was hired under a team, he still allowed me to be myself and orchestra it how I wanted to. I never had to dim my light I was completely and 100% myself. He provided me with my first job in college and I would forever be grateful. From there I went up the Wolfpack ladder. I started noticing my love and passion for promotions and marketing. This inspired me to study public relations as my minor.
I was hungry to grow in this field and learn how to make not only myself but my team Wolfpack better as a brand and company. We hosted community events, concerts with A-list celebrities, Happy Hours after Set Friday, Car and Bike show, Brunches you name it… I mean we had Tallahassee on lock hands down. Every popping event you can think of was run by that little wolf person on the flyer. I met so many people, that I was even able to put some of my friends in positions to get hired and make money it was truly a great experience overall. Until one particular birthday, in the summer of 2020, I was put to the test of throwing my event without the help of Mr. Floyd due to an unforeseen circumstance. I was devastated but I knew he made sure I was equipped with all the knowledge and skills necessary to hold it down on my own.
Hence the birth of SKYGOATFEST my very first event that I orchestrated by myself, paid for by myself, produced by myself. It was the scariest month of my life if we are being honest but I did it and it succeeded. Although, unfortunate things had to happen God knew I needed that because I would have never known my full potential unless that situation happened and forced me to be the brains, the arms, and the wallet of my entire operation. Due to the success of the event, I planned to make SKYGOATFEST a brand and host an event every year tailored to bringing local artists and local businesses together. That was my strong suit and quickly became my passion. I’ve always been known for helping and loving my community.
I’ve been doing service projects since I was three helping both of my grandmas at their church feed and give back to the community. I attended private school and every month we would have service day where they send us off to different locations to once again give back to our community. My mom raised me to always be kind to others and when I see someone in need to always help them and these skills translated over into my adult life. I wanted to create a brand not just for financial gain but a brand that would bring all of my passions together while still serving and giving back to the community that made me into the woman I am today. On September 19, 2020, SKYGOAT Productions was founded.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing meant to be great will ever come easy I learned that back in middle school. Often people like to say the devil is attacking and I like to look at it the other way around. The devil is not attacking me because I know my God won’t allow that. My God is simply testing me to see if I’m ready for the next step in my life. Since I was in my mummy’s belly, she always used to tell me you are a chosen one, you will go and do great things. When I was born, she told me this every day, as I got older, she constantly reminded me of this.
Like I said before I know that I was never meant to fit in anywhere. My calling in life is bigger than anything I can ever imagine; however, it wasn’t until I got to college that I started realizing that I needed to move toward my purpose, move like I’m a chosen one. God has perfectly designed my life and crafted my journey down to even the mishaps and challenges I have faced to prepare me for the greatness that is to come. I know I’m on my climb because things I can’t explain keep happening to me but best believe I am READY FOR WAR!
We’ve been impressed with SKYGOAT Productions, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
SKYGOAT Productions, LLC was founded on September 19th, 2020, and incorporated on June 1, 2023. I wanted to create a company and brand that brought all of my talents and passions together. My stage name SKYGOAT was created in high school, my classmates always called me the GOAT because whenever we needed to get things done, I was the person to handle those things no matter how small or big I was the plug for everything. As I got older, I realized the term GOAT was losing its value.
Everyone and their momma were calling themselves the GOAT. I do not like fitting in or being a number, but I did so much with the name SKYGOAT. I knew had to find a way to stand out with this GOAT term. So, therefore, I went into my thinking mode and discovered I’m a jack of all trades. I act, dance, sing, rap, event planner, t-shirt designer, graphic designer, entrepreneur, activist, and the list goes on. So here I am playing with things in my brain and I said “No, I’m a JOAT (jack of all trades) as a joke, that’s when it hit me GOAT…. Great Of All Things.” So essentially when someone says SKYGOAT they are saying Sky great of all things.
I believe in the power of manifestation. I believe in the power of being mindful of the energy you allow around you, in you, and near you. I want people to when they say my name, speak positively about my life and that’s why giving a meaning to the name SKYGOAT was so important to me, given so many people address me as such. This also gave a deeper meaning to my business name SKYGOAT Productions. My company was built on the principles of bringing together all of my talents and passions to make something so powerful. Growing up my dad/ angel (Willie Simmons) always used to tell me having a plan B is cool but don’t let your plan B distract from plan A.
I always considered that because he and my mom never gave me an ultimatum on choosing studies or choosing my passion. They allowed me to always combine the two so I can learn how to juggle in this society which I feel is awesome because no one who is single-skilled is thriving right now. I’m a successful businesswoman and brand because I grew up having to juggle multiple things at one time and giving 150% to everything.
In short SKYGOAT Productions, LLC is a marketing and brand development agency whose primary focus is local artists and businesses within our community. I have been blessed to be given a team of creatives who are fully supportive of my goals and missions and are willing to work with me and work together to make our dreams come true.
What makes you happy?
Honestly seeing those around me succeed. I’m a big service person I love helping my community. Plenty of times, I have taken my last to help someone or even fallen out with others because I was helping someone. I’m almost always helping someone even if it ends up hurting me in the end.
Maturing and realizing that sometimes people are opportunists did hurt me a lot of times more than not. However, God always knows my heart and that’s why I’m forever blessed because I genuinely do things out of the kindness of my heart with no money gain, no publicity just simply off the fact of wanting to see my village and community win.
