Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevisha Jones.
Kevisha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
As I awaited the arrival of my son, I spent an extensive amounts of time on YouTube, where I eventually discovered mom YouTubers. Their videos were informative and provided a sense of community for parents to exchange useful information, which intrigued me as an expecting first-time mom. Considering I could not actively participate in my community, I figured YouTube would be an awesome tool to expand my reach and connect with people from all over. During my maturity photoshoot, I decided randomly to record a video with my iPhone. Using the basic editing skills, I possessed at the time to construct my very first YouTube video, Behind the Scenes of my Maternity Photoshoot. The abundance of support and positive feedback motivated me to continue creating content and documenting my journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not, there’s loads of research and hard work done behind the scenes of every Youtube video. Not only did I have to learn how to edit on my own, but understand data analytics to optimize my targeted audience. Using copyrighted music was one of my very first challenges. Also, learning how to advertise my videos. To this day, I’m continuously educating myself on how I can improve the quality of my content and grow my audience.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m a content creator on YouTube, Unika Beauty. I create relatable content consisting of lifestyle, motherhood, beauty and college experiences, all things I am passionate about. I am most proud of the inspiration I give others through my videos and my life. Despite being a small channel, high quality sets me apart from other small channels. Also, the never-seen and unique products featured on my channel stand out.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Self-discipline, making time to work on the backend. That means, e.g. using the appropriate tags and video title selection. Consistency put forth daily efforts in the growth of your channel, like promoting my channel. Most importantly, perseverance because videos won’t always show results right away, that doesn’t mean give up.
