Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaylin Peavie a.k.a. K.UTIE.
K.UTIE, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a 21 years old Singer and songwriter named K.UTIE. I was born and raised in Jacksonville Florida, and that is where I currently reside. I have been involved in music my entire life, growing up in a musical household. I have been singing and dancing since the age of three. I began taking piano lessons at the age of five and truly fell in love with the art of music. In 3rd grade, I was introduced to the violin and that became my first love. I have traveled all throughout Florida and out of state with my gift on violin. I have performed for various events from weddings all the way to the Florida Senators session at the Capital in Tallahassee.
I still perform on violin for many events today and I am working to incorporate it into some of my music. I released my first single called Be Mine (available on all platforms) at the beginning of this year (January 13th, 2019) and it became a favorite among my listeners. Since then I have released many songs including a Summer Project called Summer Love Ep (available on SoundCloud – August 3rd, 2019. I have also perform my songs at many events and I am looking forward to being apart of many more. I write songs about my personal experiences. My goal is to spread love and good vibes through my music to the world and to help and support my family. I want to release songs for everyone of your feelings and emotions so that everyone has something to relate to. My biggest inspiration is my parents, they have been through so much to keep me involved in everything that I do but they still support everything that I do and only wants to see me at the top of my game and they only deserve the best and that is what I want to give back to them.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road, even now. My family has not always been financially stable. My dad struggles with a disease called sarcoidosis (black lung disease). He wasn’t supposed to make it past my first birthday but through faith in God, he was able to make a great recovery and is here now to see my sister and I become the young women that we are today. He has taught me so much including how a man should treat his wife and to never settle for anything and never love a man more than he loves you. He still struggles today with this disease but he is “Superman” and he’s not letting anything take him down.
My mom has always been the breadwinner for the family due to my dads disability but she is a strong yet graceful woman and she has taught me how to be a woman, a real woman that is. She is the epitome of black woman excellence and I don’t know what I would be without her. My mom has also had some medical issues. In 2016, she was in and out of the hospital for months yet, she still remained smiling and she fought like a true warrior. She has since then recovered but she still has some challenges in health. Me personally, I have dealt with my own challenges that I express through my music. I have dealt with some depression and I even lost quite a bit of weight at one point in my life. I went through some horrible breakups and dealt with some people that did not have my best interests in mind. I developed some trust issues throughout the years which actually inspired my song “Trust Issues”. Seeing my parents go through even bigger challenges has been a major help to me. Anytime I think I’m going through something, I always think about people who are going through way worse than I am. I keep a smile on my face and keep it moving.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a singer and songwriter that goes by the name of K.UTIE. People ask “why K.UTIE?” My real name is Kaylin and I am 21 but I tend to look like a cute little kid. Together that makes K.UTIE. I am most proud of the fact that I just started this year and I have accomplished so much and the year has not even ended. I have so much more on the way and I’m really excited to see how everyone likes it. What sets me apart from others is my style and vibe. My music is soulful and RnB which is not something that everyone is doing these days. I tend to be more on the quiet side at first meet but My vibe is sweet and elegant with sass and passion. Anything that I do or say is 100% me. I would love to get a chance to share more of myself with the world.
What were you like growing up?
I have always been the extra/introvert if you will. I tend to be very quiet and chill but I can also turn up and have fun. I’ve never had a hard time making new friends but I tend to hang out in groups because sometimes I can be awkward when I’m just with one other person if we’re not that close. I’m not the one to go up and talk to random people but I am receptive to those kinds of people. They make me feel a little more comfortable. I have always been interested in all arts in general. I don’t have a real preference in music or anything, I’ve always been open minded to any genre. I’m also intrigued but different cultures and languages. I can greet myself in seven different languages and my goal is to become fluent in at least three of them. I’ve always just been an open minded, independent and chill person.
