Meet Kayla Cooper of Kween Collections in Kendall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Cooper.

Kayla, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I decided to start my brand because I wanted something that I could call my own. I graduated with my Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing, but due to COVID-19, there weren’t many job opportunities available in my field. Though I am employed, it’s not necessarily what I had my heart set on. Essentially, I am receiving a 2-for-1 by building a brand I believe in and honing marketing skills. This way, I can stay true to myself and learn as I go. I didn’t want to wait for something to happen, so I made it happen. I hate feeling unproductive, so I gave myself a project, not realizing it would turn into a full-fledged business.

Has it been a smooth road?
I have a lot of support from family and friends so the journey hasn’t been too rough, but it is definitely a lot of hard work. The pandemic has taken a lot of things away from me; graduation, visiting my grandmother, etc. but it gave me a lot of opportunities to build, reflect, and even better myself as a person. One of the things that I had to realize was that it wouldn’t happen overnight, so I struggled with patience. To mitigate that, I set smaller and realistic goals for myself so I could celebrate the small victories. Of course, I have bigger dreams, but it’s good to accept the smaller accomplishments so that you don’t get discouraged by not seeing the manifestation of those big dreams just yet.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Kween Collections story. Tell us more about the business.
My brand is really about owning your style and bringing out your inner “Kween.” Kween Collections specializes primarily in luxury eyewear and accessories. You can feel like you’re living lavish, without paying lavish prices. I wanted to inspire other young women to take control of their image by bringing them accessories that they can be confident in at a low price. I think what sets my brand apart from others is, I am not telling you to wear my products to be beautiful. I am telling you that you are already beautiful and my products can only enhance the beauty you already possess. When you realize that, then you can really be a “Kween.”

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
Over the next 5-10 years, I would love to venture in women’s clothing specialized for young adult women. I can see Kween Collections with a brick-and-mortar location in Miami. I think that having a storefront or maybe in a mall would be my biggest dream for the next 5-10 years. Eventually, I would like to provide wholesale products to be able to help other small businesses and boutiques break into the industry.
