Today we’d like to introduce you to Katya Thompson.
Hi Katya, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in a small town in Belarus. As long as I remember myself, I loved creating something new, especially helping my dad and grandpa when they were building something in our home. I guess that’s why when it was time to apply to University, I chose Civil Engineering. Then I moved to the United States and was immediately drawn to the exciting world of Interior Design. After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Interior Design from the University of Oklahoma, I launched my career with several iconic fashion brands such as Fossil, BCBG, Guess, Marc Jacobs, and others, where I designed retail storefronts in the US, Canada, London, Frankfurt, Singapore and other major hubs all over the world. Being a Registered Interior Designer led me to opportunities working with interior design firms in Los Angeles CA and in Dallas TX. While enjoying many aspects of architecture and engineering, my true calling is Interior Design. It allows me to express myself in a much more free and creative manner. My Eastern European background and worldly travels allow me to incorporate a myriad of artistic elements into my work. My mission is to provide a design that is uniquely tailored to client’s aesthetic and lifestyle. In 2020, my husband, Drew; who was a business executive with an MBA, and I decided to move to Boca Raton FL where we purchased a home décor business. We quickly added interior design to the business and in a short 3 years we now have 12 designers and do high-end interior design projects throughout the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think it’s impossible to live a life without difficulties, but when you choose something, you truly love, it’s always worth the struggle! The biggest challenge I’ve overcome was moving from Belarus speaking only Russian to moving to Oklahoma, trying to learn English and going to college at the same time. I was able to overcome cultural differences and quickly learn English, but many of the skills and values that I learning growing up in Belarus are still deep within me and make me who I am. I believe being able to go through this in my younger years has allowed me to take chances and risk it all like we did in 2020.
But being an interior designer means dealing with small challenges every singe day: delays in furniture delivery (and getting the wrong items delivered), builders’ mistakes, communication with clients, project management, sourcing the perfect items for each project from hundreds of vendors we have, and many more! But I love what I do, and these little issues never bother me a lot.
We’ve been impressed with Artistic Elements, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I remember one summer, I was 6 or 7 years old, playing outside all day with my cousin; I used the stick to draw floor plans on the dirt ground. I can’t quite recall what the plans look like, but I would make a kitchen boundary, and then there was living room, and so on. I would then tell all the kids we have to do a tour of the rooms! So, I guess I really was born with it!
