Hi Katia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to the United States to study English and fell in love with the country. While my life here flourished, I couldn’t forget the challenges faced by millions of Brazilians living in extreme poverty. Inspired by the philanthropic spirit I encountered in the U.S., I felt compelled to act.
A pivotal moment in my journey was when I realized I wouldn’t have children of my own. This led me to create the “KATIA’S KIDS” projects, dedicated to improving the lives of Brazilian children living in the slums. My main focus is on providing these children with opportunities for a better life, particularly through education. By ensuring access to education, healthy eating, and a positive lifestyle, I hope to empower them to choose a brighter future over a life of crime and drugs.
I reached where I am today through a combination of discipline, a strong sense of purpose, and a determination to never give up. Along the way, I was fortunate to receive incredible support from generous American donors who believed in my mission and helped bring it to life. Their commitment and generosity have been crucial in advancing our projects and making a real difference in the lives of Brazilian children in need.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. In the beginning, it was challenging to convey the urgency and importance of philanthropic efforts, as the concept was still gaining traction in my home country.However, I’m extremely happy to have witnessed a significant shift in Brazil’s approach to philanthropy, especially since the pandemic in 2020. The change is remarkable—now there’s a palpable excitement, and more people are stepping up to do their part. This shift has been incredibly inspiring and has reinforced my commitment to our mission.

The Katia Francesconi Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) Charitable Foundation founded in 2014, based in the US and Brazil, which partners with like-minded organizations that strive to create better opportunities for impoverished children so they can have a better chance in life, thrive, and follow their dreams. I am an advocate for the rights of children in my country, connecting philanthropists and raising donations to empower the social projects I deeply know in Brazil. I make regular visits to monitor the development of actions within the network of NGOs supported by my foundation, and believe that by offering education to these children, they will see the road out of poverty. Education is a right. Everyone, regardless of their economic background, should have the opportunity to dream bigger.
The foundation continues to expand its reach, impacting more children and communities in need through strong partnerships and collaborations. By implementing innovative solutions to address the challenges faced by children in Brazil, I have developed and participated in standout projects like “KATIA’S KIDS Amazon” and “KATIA’S KIDS Pará.” These initiatives provide children with access to education, unprocessed food, and wellness activities essential for their holistic development. It’s been a wonderful journey for me to create and grow the KATIA’S KIDS philosophy – to provide education, healthy living, and ecology – to children facing social vulnerability, 3 pillars to build a brighter future.The foundation’s programs, in collaboration with social leaders, also support children’s personal and emotional development. Through unwavering dedication, and innovative initiatives, the Katia Francesconi Foundation is making a significant difference in the lives of underprivileged children, empowering them to dream of a brighter future.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe the most important quality to my success is my passion and the understanding that this is my life mission. This unwavering commitment drives me every day. KATIA’S KIDS are “my kids”—I practice motherhood in a unique way, by dedicating my time and energy to improving their lives. This deep personal connection and sense of responsibility are at the heart of everything I do.
