Today we’d like to introduce you to Katarzyna (kasia) Wlodarczyk
Hi Katarzyna (Kasia), we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Photography has always been a passion of mine, as long as I could remember. At every event, family or friend gathering or any moment which triggered any emotion, I jumped at documenting it with my camera. Something about being able to freeze time, whether it was joyous or somber, knowing I or the recipient, could go back and relive the moment at anytime, brought peace to my soul.
I would say it was about 8 years ago is when I started out with my first “real” camera, mastering manual mode and creating photography which reflected my thoughts and visions. My main focus at the time was wildlife and landscape photography. I am grateful for all the time I have been able to travel through the US and I can’t describe in words the beauty I have been lucky enough to see. So that’s where my camera came into play! Fast forward a few years later, I was approached by several friends inquiring about family and maternity photos. So I decided to dive into the world of portrait and family photography. I did not want to fall into the “cookie cutter” family photography you see on every social media page. I wanted to stay true to myself and my love of the most unique backdrops, sunrise & sunsets. I quickly started to experience the emotional connections during my sessions. I found myself loving the experience and being able to freeze the most beautiful candid moments between my families and couples. To capture the true emotions of the moment, not f*ke staged smiles.
The most common compliment and booking inquires I continued to receive was that my prospective clients “loved my eye” and “loved my vision. “ That is how Kat Photography with the logo of my blue eye portrayed as a camera lens shutter, was born!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When first starting out in family photography the hardest part is remembering to keep true to yourself, your style and your visions. Because of the over saturation of photographers I find many people will just price hunt, trying to find the best deal. This brings along so many problems because every photographer has their own visions and their own editing style. Price hunters don’t consider this and will try to persuade you to change your editing style to match something they saw on social media. It has absolutely been a struggle to come to realization that not every client is for me, and that is okay. I urge all my prospective clients to review my portfolio to assure my style is the session style they are envisioning.
Another noteworhty challenge of being a family photographer is living in a world of high quality cell phone cameras, along with over saturation of “shoot & burn” photographers, as we call it. Shoot & burn photographers are those who acquire any type of camera and simply “press the shutter button” to take photos, for a very low price. They undervalue the photography business and take away from the creativity and real work a true photographer puts into their sessions & clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love this question! Mainly because I feel I have a very unique specialization which sets me apart from most. I am known for my Sunrise & Sunset photography. I am usually the first one at a location and the last one to leave! I currently photograph all genres, family, maternity, engagement, milestones (adult & children) pets, seniors and I am open to any new and fun ideas as well!
I have a deep passion for sunrise and sunset photos, to give you that unique, one of a kind photo session.
I don’t use any cookie cutter presets when creating your final images. Each finalized photo has my personalized touch involved, this assures your photos stand out from the rest.
You will not find 2 sessions of mine with the same sky or look, each and every one will have it’s own unique story and it’s all dependent on the weather and what Mother Nature gives us that day!
I am very quirky and love to have fun during my sessions. I feel like I am a story teller in my heart and my goal is to take a still photograph and bring it to life, to tell YOUR families story.
I am most proud that I do not overbook, so I do not have any time restraints on my sessions. It is extremely important to me that all my attention is focused on you, your family and your time. I am honored to be trusted by so many families, to be able to tell each authentic story and give my clients those emotional moments they deserve.
One of my favorite quotes related to photography is posted right on my website.
“It’s one thing to make a picture of what a person looks like, it’s another thing to make a portrait of who they are.”
— PAUL CAPONIGRO
What are your plans for the future?
In the next 4 years I plan to start traveling again, my hope is to be able to establish myself as a traveling photographer. Being able to capture the same raw, authentic moments amongst couples and families but now throughout the US in some of the most breathtaking states and incredible sunrise & sunset locations!
Other than that, currently, I am broading my scopes and stepping into the Equestrian world as well! The beauty of the connection between human & horse, is one I am excited to start documenting.
I hope to continue in my growth as a photographer, learning more and collaborating with those who I feel share my vision!
