Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Greer.
Karen, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I actually got started by accident when I was teaching dance classes. My boss owned a management company representing kids and teens for print and commercials in the late 70″s. When I was teaching she asked me to help out in the office and I learned how to send out castings and book talent. I had a knack for it and she later turned the management company over to me which would be known as KG management and I continued as a manager there for 6 years.
While working with several agencies a well-known agent had asked me if I would join the team booking children. I took the job and made a name for myself focusing on the kids and teens market. It was a very busy time working with clients from all over the world who would come to South Beach to shoot their catalogs.
Germans, French, Italians, Canadians were some of the countries that would come to Miami as well as many others. The clients would spend hours in the agency looking at model composite cards to prepare for upcoming castings.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It was not easy in the beginning working very long hours 7 days a week. Your life is not your own when you start out. As a children’s booker it was difficult working with the parents who don’t understand how the business works and trying to be sympathetic when their child didn’t book jobs. Parents tend to take it personally when their child does not get chosen. As time went on I learned how to balance work and have a personal life as well but only after many years of hard work.

Karen Greer Models and talent is a boutique agency. We are a SAG/AFTRA franchise and specialize in the kids and teens models representing ages newborn to 18 years old. This is a full-service agency located in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. We book children for print, voice-overs, commercials, TV and film.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is based on longevity in the business and relationships you build along the way. I have had the pleasure of working with many of the same clients for over 30 years. When you have the trust with clients and they continually work with you that alone is worth a million and for me the true meaning of success.
