Today we’d like to introduce you to Julio Figueroa Beltrán.
Hi Julio, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Julio Figueroa Beltran and I am an artist I’ve been surrounded by art for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching my father, Julio Figueroa Sr., who is a botanical illustrator, and his work has a huge influence on me. Seeing him paint and study the natural world sparked my own fascination with color, form, and nature from a very young age.
That early inspiration became a lifelong passion. I went on to study Fine Arts in Havana, and later moved to Miami, where I’ve been living and creating since 2007. Here, I’ve found new sources of inspiration, the southern landscapes, the surrounding sea, the light, and the rhythm of nature itself. These elements have become central to my work and continue to guide my creative process every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When I first moved to Miami, it was a time of great change, not just geographically, but personally and artistically as well. Coming from Havana, I had to adjust to a completely new rhythm of life. Everything felt different, It took some time to find my footing and to understand how my work could evolve within this new environment.
But gradually, Miami began to feel like home. Its warmth, its cultural energy, and especially its connection to the sea reminded me of the Caribbean in ways that felt both familiar and new. Over the years, the city has become an essential part of who I am and how I create. It’s a place that continues to inspire me, a bridge between my roots and my present, where my art has truly found its voice.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My paintings comes from a very personal and reflective place. I’m drawn to the space where reality and dreams overlap, where memory, imagination, and emotion can mix freely. I often start with familiar images or symbols, then let them evolve into something unexpected, something that feels both intimate and mysterious. In my paintings, time and logic often shift or dissolve, creating a sense of openness where meaning can emerge naturally rather than being explained.
I see painting as a way to explore the inner world we all share, the feelings, symbols, and stories that live beneath the surface of everyday life. Each piece becomes a kind of visual reflection, inviting the viewer to drift between what’s seen and what’s felt, between the conscious and the subconscious. Through this process, I hope to create a quiet space for contemplation, where imagination and emotion can meet on their own terms.
