Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Gaggero
Judy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am Judy Gaggero, a lifetime painter, born in Kansas. At the age of three I created my first art work, a Valentine’s Card for my parents; scribbles with an orange Crayon. I thought it was beautiful. As I grew, Art education from elementary school through the University of Connecticut, plus abundant study with internationally acclaimed artists, were the building blocks for my art career. My adult years have been deeply inspired with extensive world travel and seeing the dynamic of nature. This connection is seminal to my work.
Besides the luxury of travel, my immersion in painting has been enriched with a diverse range of career paths. They included ownership of California based Interior Images, Interior Design Co., and later, JAG, Real Estate Co. , North Carolina. Now retired from these and other endeavors, I am free to completely focus on my art business and painting; my first love and true vocation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes, my journey over all, is a very good one. At times it is necessary to postpone my art due to career and family obligations. Although all contribute to a fulfilling learning experience. And , I am rewarded with a loving family.
Moving to different parts of the country and reestablishing careers was challenging. However, I would say that hard work, determination, and persistence have paved the way to move forward with a positive outlook, and outcome.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a painter, experienced in oil, acrylic, watercolor and now alcohol and ink. I was mostly known for my watercolor paintings. My watercolor style transitioned from figurative, and representational, to loose and abstracted. Due to their similarities, I was introduced a few years ago to alcohol and ink, and became enamored with it’s magical power. I found that many use this medium for crafts and simple designs, but my goal was to take It to a higher level, and create museum quality fine art. For this purpose, it is an extremely challenging medium, but also a very rewarding venture which is very well received. My intention is to produce spirted yet etherial pieces; with vibrant colors, energy and beauty. I feel that I have accomplished my goal when the paintings speak for themselves, and to others.
Along with my original paintings, many pieces are produced and acquired as metal enlargements; This revelatory concept magnifies the detail and carries the viewer to an inner contemplative place.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Well, I don’t know if you would call them qualities, maybe practical characteristics. Regardless, I am very persistent, and I feel a need to accomplish my goals. I am also somewhat of a perfectionist so I set very high standards for myself; especially with my painting. I am a very hard worker, a good delegator, but not afraid to “pitch in” when needed.
But on a different note, being connected and establishing meaningful relationships also contribute to a successful life. Communication is key; knowing the wants and needs of others is something that is often overlooked or misinterpreted. I believe that having a common bond or having a curiosity for our differences. Is important. We all are fragments of nature, made up of energy. I want my paintings to speak to this spirit. When they infuse to the viewer, thoughts of inspiration, delight, and inner perspective, then I have succeeded.
