Today we’d like to introduce you to Jt Knight.
Hi Jt, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Like every entrepreneur it all started in my mom’s garage when I was 15, I wasn’t rapping or making beats but I was obsessed with listening to it and I had a friend who downloaded a recording program on my laptop when he asked me to record him. I fell in love instantly.
It felt like I was the caption of a spaceship seeing all the different buttons and having the power to make something sound like whatever we wanted. Growing up like every teenager I always hated rules and music never had any.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When your 1st get into a hobby or a future career the last thing that happens is smooth sailing because everything is new. I remember when I got my 1st internship at a “real” recording studio and I used to get complaints left and right, I would peak and distort vocals.
I’ll forget to press the recording button, I was even losing sessions because I knew nothing about the technical part of recording I just trusted my ear. I’ll never forget the day I almost quit. When you get complaints more than praise you question your talents and if this is what you are even supposed to be doing with your time and life I decided it was so I pushed through it.
I used to watch YouTube tutorials for Protools while I’m on the way to a session, I would look up top engineers and watch and use whatever plug-ins they use and I became hungry and eventually started gaining more clients and I started to get requested more than the veteran engineers at the studio.
If you try hard enough eventually you’ll get rewarded in anything you do and that was a great lesson for me to learn at the time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Syfy Studios?
Syfy Studios is changing the way artists view recording studios. We understand how clients want to work, they need privacy and need to be in a creative, comfortable relaxed environment to express themselves.
All of our facilities are private which means it’s only your guest (if you invite any) your engineer and yourself in the building. There are no random distractions popping in and out or giving you unwanted opinions you are free to be as loud and creative as you need to be.
We specialize in everything an artist needs such as recording, mixing, mastering, marketing, photo shoots, videos, and the list can go on forever.
We’re trying to be one of the 1st recording facilities to completely branch out and have a studio everywhere in the world, so when our artists go on world tours you’ll always have a Syfy Studios facility at your fingertips.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The best thing you can do when starting something for the 1st time is to make as many mistakes as possible. Mistakes are unavoidable but the lessons are unforgettable.
Don’t take the internet for granted, you can learn anything from watching YouTube videos, googling error messages you don’t understand, reaching out to people who specialize in what you want to do via a DM or comment on their TikTok videos because people respond and are more willing to help than you think they are.
You have to put in the work to get rewarded you shouldn’t have time to find excuses.
