Born and raised in Boston, MA, Joshua worked in sales for over a decade in the sports industry. In search of an opportunity that would allow him to combine his expertise in sales with his passion for the green movement, his lifelong mentor and now business partner introduced him to IntelliTurf, a premium synthetic grass design and installation firm based out of Atlanta, Georgia. IntelliTurf, founded over twenty years ago by a former golf professional, presented a mission and quality products that Joshua could stand behind.
After recognizing the need for premium turf design and installation in the Sunshine State, he launched IntelliTurf of South Florida in fall of 2016 with the vision to allow future generations to thrive outdoors while reducing their footprint on the environment.
Has it been a smooth road?
Any business owner or entrepreneur faces their own unique set of challenges when launching in a new market. I realized early on that educating the population on how far “astroturf” had come since it was rolled out in Houston in the 1960s would be one of my greatest challenges. Like any technology, there have been substantial functional and aesthetic improvements with artificial turf over the years. IntelliTurf in particular has engineered a proprietary backing that offers superior drainage – but to someone who is unfamiliar with turf or the construction industry, they may not understand immediately the importance of drainage. The initial sticker shock associated with the installations presents another challenge, but having been operating for almost a year now, I have learned how to identify clients through strategic partnerships who not only have a need for artificial turf in their lives, but will also see the value in all that IntelliTurf has to offer.
I realize that, regardless of industry, it takes a year to build a business – and I am patient, but that doesn’t mean I am slowing down by any measure. IntelliTurf of South Florida is only the beginning of my plans for improving the quality of life for my clients both within their homes and within their community.

As Principal, I know I cannot be everywhere at once, but I makes myself personally available to each and every client, oversees all installations and is there every day to ensure quality above all else, and that the people I work with hold themselves and their work to the same elevated standards.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I wholeheartedly believe that South Florida is a good market for my business. To someone just starting out, I would advise them to be patient. As frustrating that piece of advice can be, I realize now it’s crucial in building a business that lasts. I recommend aligning yourself with people you can trust, quality products you can stand behind and ensuring that your process of doing business with others and within your own team is elevated above the rest. Eventually, the quality of your work and the quality of your business overall will move you apart and ahead of others in your market.
