Meet Jose Vilar of Jose Vilar PA – The Westchester Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Vilar

Hi Jose, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Chile and grew up in Miami. As a child, my mother put me in swim lessons at the Venetian Pool in Coral Gables. I enjoyed swimming and was pretty good at it. Eventually I taught kids to swim. Then I was asked to join the team and become a lifeguard. Same story, I became pretty good at it and was promoted to Lifeguard Supervisor. Then when I graduated the University of Miami I became the assistant manager. Then I was promoted to the main manager for the Venetian Pool and have been managing it for over 10 years. We have an amazing team with over 60 employees and ever year save dozens of drowning guests, teach over 500 swim lessons to children and adults, and make memories in a historic place like no other.

During my time there I was fortunate to find love. And same story, I did a good job and was promoted to the role of Husband, and then got selected for the most important job: a dad. As soon as I became a dad, I realized that there are other people depending on me and I had to ensure their safety. So I got my real estate license and started to focus on helping homeowners in a neighborhood called Westchester. Over the years I’ve been able to grow and expand my business and now am owner of The Westchester Magazine, MiamiWestchester.com, the Westchester Times, and my real estate team called The Westchester Group.

Balancing the three roles hasn’t been easy but it has been rewarding. I oversee and train lifeguards who rescue guests and respond to emergencies, I get to bring the joy of homeownership to incredible people with different stories, and I get to raise a strong, smart boy, a beautiful colorful daughter, and God-willing another addition to the family coming soon alongside with the love of my life. That has been the best voyage so far.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building a business is never easy. I have had a couple of failed businesses along the way. My Wife and I did long distance during college which was also a challenge but we made it out on the other side.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
