Meet Jonathan Fish of National Water Restoration

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Fish.

Jonathan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off as a property claims adjuster. And one day I looked over a restoration invoice for a job that I was adjusting and realized that “Hey, I could do this!” That is when I decided that I was going to open my own restoration company. I then searched for classes that taught about water, fire, and mold emergency clean up. Once I learned more about the restoration process I began to do jobs with one small van. Now I have grown to have a company that has two locations, many emergency trucks and a large amount of equipment.

Has it been a smooth road?
Well, there are always challenges throughout life. In the beginning the biggest challenge was getting the work. Once the company became better known and the jobs started to increase, the challenge was handling them efficiently and making sure we were giving 100% to our clients. That had to do with getting the proper employees and procedures in place.

Furthermore, once I did get established with my team I started to receive larger jobs, such as a 12-story broken pipe leak with 30-40 apartments completely saturated. This caught me completely by surprise and I realized that I needed to hire personnel that are experienced with these catastrophes. I also went back for education myself, learning about major commercial drying.

Realizing that these jobs were a great opportunity for the company, I invested tremendously in purchasing trucks, equipment and various systems for tackling major emergencies. That also brought up a new challenge, how do you upsize and downsize a company within hours? Just last month we got an emergency in Miami Beach of a sprinkler pipe that affected around 60 apartments. The call came in at 5 am and I had to get 30 technicians within an hour over to that building to control the situation. I find with anything you do there are always obstacles; however, I am always excited to tackle a new challenge.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with National Water Restoration – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in water, fire, and mold emergency clean up. We do both residential and commercial jobs and we are known for servicing some of the most prestigious buildings in Miami. As well as, being the preferred vendor of the largest management companies in South Florida. I am proud because up to this day we have been able to handle every single job that has come our way. Moreover, I am proud that people entrust me with their valuable properties.

Furthermore, after seeing some major losses, I was inspired to write a book “Hero in the Workplace” teaching people in the management industry on ways to manage their properties during emergencies. We also became an educator in the industry and provide continuing education credits to property managers. We recently launched a new program called, the Emergency Readiness Program. With this program we teach property managers how to minimize damage after a major emergency.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I like the beach and the variety of restaurants, as well as the people! There is always so much to do, and the city is so beautiful! I least like the traffic and jellyfish!
