Today we’d like to introduce you to Joe D Blow.
Joe, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was born Sept 11th of 88 my pops went to a federal prison when I was a baby so he wasn’t present as much as he would’ve liked to be. He did over 15 years so it was just me my mom and my sister. I started writing music at a young age me and my nephew use to record 60-sec clips on a desktop lol we didn’t know what we were doing we just wanted to rap. Eventually, I started to take my craft serious after I linked up with my brother ally Toussaint then known as Supa taz where we created gorilla affair I Recorded my first track titled “joe blow” and that’s where I got my name the rest is history
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not life never really is a smooth road but the bumps and the hurdles are what make us. In November of 2012, I violated my probation and was sentenced to the DOC (department of corrections) gorilla affair took a blow. my bro’s kept it going for a while but the fire eventually went out and life takes its place. f***** up time but I wrote some of my best material behind the gates… songs like “bluebird” I can’t wait for y’all to hear I came home in Jan 2016 with a new mindset.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I linked up with dirty 1000 not too long after I got home. We already had a relationship prior through mutual friends and when you go through enough shit together friends become family. Long story short my bro brought me into the company allowing me to continue working on my craft and finish what I started. I would say I specialize in production I feel like I have an ear like no other for big music something that I kinda feel the need to prove. What I’m known for?? I don’t think I’m known for anything yet but I’m looking to change that very soon!.
What makes me proud about the company is the growth watching growth from day one it’s a tough business were in so I tip my hat to my Bro’s especially dirt every year has been progressed and growth gods will it continue that way. What I feel separates me from others is my mind I’m a big thinker. I read between the lines a lot Gift and a curse but it’s definitely helped me write some dope music even for a female artist or just writing something from someone else point of view
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
All of it! not worrying about being an adult lol when we’re young we’re in a rush to grow up y’all kids slow down enjoy it.
