Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Wallace.
Hi Jocelyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a physical therapist, a Crossfit and Nutrition coach. While still in the midst of getting my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, I was diagnosed with a condition called uterine fibroids. They are benign tumors that grow around and inside the uterus. They impact tens of millions of women, causing symptoms like pain, heavy bleeding, loss of energy, and many other symptoms. I had a surgery called an Open Myomectomy while in school. This surgery is done to remove the fibroids and is a very common surgery, similar to a hysterectomy or c-section. Despite all the information and access I had as a graduate student at a private school, there were still no resources for women who were going through what I was. It’s now been five years since my surgery. I vowed to get all of the education I needed to help women never feel alone the way that I did during my diagnosis and surgery. So I became a pelvic health specialist and opened Fit with Fibroids. It’s a practice offering online coaching and in-person rehabilitation services for women with reproductive disorders. Now I combine fitness, physical therapy and nutrition coaching to help women completely transform their lives, navigate surgeries, lose weight, get healthy, and THRIVE despite having fibroids.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not been a smooth road. After my surgery, I dealt with a lot of pain, the self-esteem issues of having a large scar, loss of sensation and a slow return to athleticism. Along my journey, I’ve also dealt with pelvic floor symptoms like urinary leaking, which are too often normalized by our medical community. It took numerous years before I figured out the right formula to feel like I had recovered well and that is what I work to share with other women.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My business provides a service that is like no other. Through a combo of nutritional services, fitness and rehabilitation experience, I am able to offer women a truly holistic solution. I specialize in helping women address all the aspects of our lives that impact physical wellbeing. I am most proud of having clients locally as well as in Honduras, India, Austria, Australia, and Canada! When you give women the tools they need to thrive, they go out there and freaking DO IT! And it’s been so amazingly powerful to see. I want your readers to know that healing doesn’t have to mean endless in person rehabilitation appointments, thousands of dollars, or completely uprooting their lives and routines. Often all it takes is guidance, a structured plan and patience.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can contact me via email at DrJocelynWallace@gmail.com and/or support me by following and sharing on Instagram @drjocelynwallace. A HUGE part of my mission is to educate women that solutions are out there; we don’t have to live in pain or hide our problems related to pelvic health.
