Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Kaye.
Jill, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
At the age of 25 I went to beauty school after struggling to find a career that was right for me. While in beauty school I apprenticed on the weekends at a hair salon. After completing beauty school, I got a job as a full time apprentice for two years.
Immediately following I became a full time hairdresser at a commission based salon.
After 7 years of working for other salon owners, I decided to venture out and rent a chair. I continued to be a booth renter and continued to learn the ins and outs of the business. While renting a chair I realized I wanted to be a salon owner. After renting the chair I then bought a hair salon bring me to three years now as the owner of the Color Cove.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been gains and losses trials and tribulations throughout my journey. Many sacrifices have been lessons learned and brought me to where I am today. For example, hiring the right people, marketing, attrition and retention as well as many other obstacles. I can say any obstacle has brought me closer to the success that I have attributed to my success at The Color Cove.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Color Cove specializes in color as well as cutting techniques and the health of the hair. At The Color Cove, we treat our guests as family. We are a boutique salon that gives individual attention to our customers from start to finish. We are not driven by ego but by team work. I am most proud of the team I have created as well as a high end product. Our clients are very comfortable and happy with the environment the team work and the efficiency we provide as a team at The Color Cove.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, I feel South Florida takes a lot of pride in their appearance. The hair industry has grown so rapidly that there is a service for everybody whether it be getting the hair in better health with treatment, For example Keratin with our humidity has helped many women to maintain their hair in an easy manner on a daily basis. I would definitely recommend South Florida being one of the better places due to the high fashion and integrity people take in their appearance.

Jill has been my Stylist for close to five years and I couldn’t be happier; she listens, interprets, and executes flawlessly. She does my color, keratin, and cut every 6 weeks. As a profession woman working in the design industry my appearance is important to me. Jill leaves me feeling beautiful and confident. She and her team make me welcome and the salon is always clean.
