Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Michelle Garcia.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
As a child, my dream and goal was to become a Pediatric Surgeon. I had no backup plan, and neither did I ever think of even looking at another direction when it came to choosing the profession I wanted to pursue. As I got older and moved onto my first two years of college, I began to notice that it is not what I wanted. I wanted to pursue a career where it involved changing the lives of children, but that did not mean curing them one day and never seeing them ever again. I wanted a career where I would be there every step of the way when it came to a child’s life. Later on, my ex’s aunt who is a director an ABA company, mentioned that in the office they needed RBTs (Or Registered Behavior Technicians). At that time, I needed a job; therefore, I took the courses and exam required to become licensed in that field. Going into the ABA field was the best decision I ever made. When I began working in the field, I knew that this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I finally found what I truly wanted to do. What was better than being a Behavior Therapist/Analyst and providing behavior therapy every day to individuals on the Autistic Spectrum? NOTHING. Once I found my calling, I changed my major completely and pursued an Associates Degree in Psychology and a Bachelors of Science degree in Applied Behavior Analysis and am currently pursuing my Masters in Applied Behavior Analysis. My passion grew so big that I also opened my own non-profit organization dedicated to individuals on the spectrum.
Please tell us about your art.
I have a non-profit organization called Power in Autism and a brand called ABA Power Network. Power in Autism, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to changing the societies views on the ability and capabilities of individuals on the Autistic Spectrum and other spectrums. We promote inclusion. The message behind the non-profit is to show the community the Power that autistic individuals have. They are capable of doing the same thing we do and more.
ABA Power Network is a networking platform that is dedicated to uniting all professionals in the ABA Field as well as the psychology field. This platform will not only help professionals network, but it will help them tune into their inner SUPERPOWERS. Behavior Therapists, Psychologists, Mental Health Counselors, Analysts, are all heroes; however; sometimes they are , and this platform will reverse that under appreciated energy.
