Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanette Brown.
Hi Jeanette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
I have been hosting shows for over ten years now. I started as so many of my first-time performers. Stumbling upon this tiny open mic show, I fell in love with it. The stage, the supportive audience, the chance to share my art – I dove headfirst into being a part of it.
And when I was offered the “keys to the kingdom,” the chance to take over the very same stage that I first stumbled upon, I said yes. A hesitant, terrified, uncertain yes that changed my life forever.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I have learned so, so many lessons along the way. In the world of events, things don’t always take off right away. It was a long road to build the community and support I’m now blessed to see at each show. I don’t take it for granted for a single second.
And in a world of profits and business, I have learned that not everyone will always have your best interest at heart. All I’ve wanted has been to simply share these stages with the community. It’s important to find support from those who match my vision and heart.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a community builder, creative encourager, and spotlight holder.
I host open mic and specialty shows here in Palm Beach County that are unique in what they offer. I am so proud of both the audience and artist that come out to these events. My stages are a place for all walks of life, where everyone is met with respect and attentiveness, and connection is continued long after the stage lights go out.
I am known as the “Hostess with the Mostest,” a title given years ago from the crowd and one I try to live up to every time I step in front of a mic.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I do not subscribe to the idea of luck or coincidence.
What I do believe in is being the best version of myself, both behind closed doors and in the spotlight. I believe in being a light to others, a safe place for those who long for community, and I believe in being consistent in what I create, regardless of the valley or mountaintop I might find myself in.
I am not perfect, but it is my desire to reflect the One who is.
