Meet Jasmine Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Jones.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born and raised in Key West, FL. I grew up in a household that was flourishing with appreciation of the arts- music, design, painting, anything creative. My parents were always encouraging me and my siblings to be passionate about something, anything we wanted to explore and learn about.

Fostering a love for art throughout my childhood, I became inspired by the tranquil landscapes of the Florida Keys after moving back to the islands following my graduation from the University of Florida.

It was as an adult that I discovered the true beauty of my hometown, and how that manifested in one major component- color!

The colors that occur naturally in the Florida Keys have been my main inspiration for painting. Whether it’s in the ocean or in the sky, the way the colors seamlessly blend and combine to create infinite and unique combinations is my favorite part of living in paradise.

Please tell us about your art.
All my works are original creations, using alcohol inks on wooden panels embellished with resin and minerals.
My main focus in each of my paintings is color. I loved growing up in a place that has vibrant colors everywhere you look- in the flowers, the sunsets, the clouds, the ocean, the animals.

My main source of inspiration though is the ocean. The way the different shades of blues, greens, even purples mix together through the channels and sand flats is like nothing you have ever seen. My favorite paintings to create are ones that embody those infinite combinations that you see in the sea.

What do you think about the conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
I think this is a really exciting time to be an artist or to be a small business owner involved in any type of creative media. With social media and access to the internet, we are able to network on a level that has never been attainable before.

More opportunities like street fairs and small art shows are a great way for beginning artists to display their craft and work.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I am currently featured in the Anna Sweet Gallery in Key West, FL.

But I also have a big presence on Instagram (@oceanbluesstudio) or on my website www.oceanbluesstudio.com.

That is where everyone can keep up with my current works.
