Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Jackson.
Jasmine, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In 2015, I moved away to Norfolk, Virginia to attend Old Dominion University and during that time, I began my relationship with God. With no family and friends there, it gave me plenty of time to create an intimate relationship with God. I joined a Christian organization called Kings Daughters Advisor Council, which promoted sisterhood and unity rooted in Christ. This organization planned an annual women empowerment conference. This conference pulled me out of my comfort Zone and quickly led to me planning my first workshop and speaking in front of young adults on the regular. Anytime I spoke, the feedback would be similar, “ you don’t look like a Christian.” “Wow, I would’ve never guess you had a relationship with God.” These comments were followed by “you’re so pretty” compliments. As if being a woman of God automatically meant boring, bland or unattractive.
Fast forward to 2018, when God revealed to me that I would have a shirt (now clothing) line, I struggled with the name. But having a clothing line made sense because people questioned my relationship with God because of how I dressed and looked. Judgment. Six months later in December 2018, God gave me “Christian Bae.” Which flower perfectly with the “teacher bae” and “nurse bae trend all over social media. Let’s stop thinking you can’t be modern and still aim for a relationship with God. And still, aim to live a life that’s pleasing to him. Let’s stop thinking that you can’t slay and pray. Let’s stop being controlled and contained by religion and focus on authenticity, vulnerability, and intimacy with God and others. Christian Bae: where Christ & Culture Connects. Where their people who don’t “look like” they love God, are welcome!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being that I’ve always been a strong-minded person, it’s been easy to ignore the opinion of others. God created me to be a culture shifter. I can’t please the culture and Change it at the same time.
When it comes to the business aspect of it, business license, EIN, LLC, etc. That part was more tedious and time-consuming because I’m the first in my family to graduate college and start a business. But God sends the right resources that come through every time. Blessings come from relationships and I’m surrounded around great people; thank God.
Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
What sets me apart from others is I truly accept people as they are. On Instagram, I make it known that Christian Bae isn’t a brand for the super holy, better than everyone else Christian. Christian Bae is honest and genuine. Some days I feel like twerking and some days I feel like sharing my testimony. Christian Bae is not a brand that will reject or demand people to be farther than they are. Christian Bae is a walking brand that truly meets people where there are. “Come as you are” not fixed up and polished. God will change hearts and actions in his perfect time. Christian Bae loves you as you are.
When you look back, what are you most proud of?
The proudest moment has been laughing Christian Bae and receiving all the positive feedback and love from others who also believe in and see the vision.
