Meet Jasmine Coicou of Covered in Orlando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Coicou.

Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My educational background is Occupational Therapy. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in 2011 and a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2013 from Florida A&M University in Tallahassee. A few years after working as a therapist, my husband and I welcomed our first daughter, Avery and right before Avery turned 1 (2016), I decided to take up a direct sales business. I remember giving my life to Christ in college but I was very inconsistent with studying my word and learning more about who God is and who He says I am. So as I was starting this business, I realized that I was truly evolving into a leader and helping a lot of other people build their businesses. I didn’t take this role lightly so I studied ways to become a better and efficient leader. My faith was a big part of my journey and I remember in October of 2016, I asked a few friends to do a bible plan with me that included scripture writing. They were on board so I created a Facebook group and that was the first seed planted for Covered.

Month after month, this scripture writing group grew more and more. I would find scripture writing plans on Pinterest and we would share our writings and thoughts within the Facebook group. I was really committed and made sure to post in this group every single day. As my business grew, I gained more opportunities to help people learn to balance working full time and working a business while having a family. Within two years, I was able to walk away from my job and work my full business time. During this season, I really truly enjoyed doing one on one calls with my team, helping them to create a schedule that worked for them and I also hosted early morning devotional calls with my team to help us get into the habit of keeping God first and studying His word before starting our day.

In 2018, I was blessed to go to Africa on a mission trip to Eswatini (Swaziland) and while I was there, God gave me specific instructions about my scripture writing group and what was to come. He put a passion within me to create a planner that included daily scripture writing along with some other things as well. He also told me that my time with my business was ending and that I needed to start my exit plan. However, this was really hard for me to wrap my head around because I was making five figures a month in this business, it retired me from my job, and it was the main source of income for our home. It was a scary thought and unfortunately, I allowed fear to take precedence over faith and I decided to pursue both and not drop my business.

In March of 2019, I found out that I was pregnant with my daughter, Ella Grace. Shortly after, I had a really bad breakdown and felt extremely overwhelmed. I prayed and heard God to tell me to take a week off from everything and rest and spend time with Him. So that’s what I did. During that week off, I decided to fully surrender my plans to God and follow His path for me. April of 2019 was my last month with my business and I decided to pursue Covered and the Covered Planner full time.

But this wasn’t a cakewalk. It was a huge adjustment because my life went from being so busy and burning out, to now trying to rediscover myself with this new pace that God was calling me to. I was diagnosed with depression, dealt with a lot of anxiety, but I was committed to my journey and I wasn’t going back. I rested a lot as I taught myself new habits and unlearned the others. I worked on my planner at the pace that God set for me and from May-October, it was a lot of healing that took place.

In November, I birthed my daughter on the 5th and I released the planners on my 32nd birthday on the 21st. The Covered Planners have sold really well and they are helping so many people set healthy habits around productivity, priorities, and remember to spend time with God daily and trusting Him to cover the rest. In June of 2020, during the pandemic, we released our second planner and we’ve seen great success so far.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road but the thing that I try to always remember is that obstacles make me stronger. Obstacles prepare me for challenges ahead. God didn’t promise me a life without challenges. He said that He would either take me out of them or He would walk with me through them. Dealing with depression, while pregnant, and while trying to launch business was difficult. There were times where I felt like my obedience was in vain, but I had to quickly remind myself that this was a new testimony and story that God was pulling me through. With Him on my side and healing through therapy, I’m here.

Another challenge I had was finding a designer that was a good fit. In the middle of being severely depressed, I was working with a designer that just wasn’t a good fit for Covered and we wasted a lot of time and resources. It was a bit frustrating because the planner release was delayed because of this and right as we were coming to the end of the partnership, we had to go our separate ways, which forced me to start over with another designer. But it all worked out, I learned so many lessons, and everything was done in the right timing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Covered is a community of resources to help the busy woman who wants to ground herself in her faith while pursuing all that God has assigned to her. Each month, we release a themed scripture writing plan, we do a devotional plan together, we have a prayer wall and an end of the month review on our scriptures for the month. With the Covered Planner, it is jammed packed with so much goodness. It has the following:

Completed Undated six month planner, Monthly Calendars, Monthly Goal Setting, Prayer List, Monthly Habit Tracking, Monthly Reflection, Weekly Priority Setting, Daily Hour by Hour Planning, Daily Affirmation Box, Daily Self Care Box, Weekly Reflection, Daily Scripture Writing, Daily Gratitude, Daily Prayer, Daily Song of Worship, Weekly Sermon Notes Pages, Dry Erase Cleaning Schedule, Dry Erase Meal Planning Sheet.

There is not a community quite like Covered and there’s not a planner out there that is as comprehensive as Covered. A lot of ladies are relieved that they can have everything in one place and not have multiple notebooks and planners to keep up with everything.
