Meet Jan Freire of Freire Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jan Freire.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jan. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I do pro photography for over 20 years. I started in 1991 and I’ve worked as fashion and celebrity photographer in beautiful Prague. Growing in middle Europe gives you a lot of style and eye for the detail. When you go through my main web page you will see my clients are Dior, Vogue, Playboy, Sony, Pioneer, Geox and many more. I worked with all major magazines and many fashion brands, models and many celebrities in our country.

But honestly, I truly fell in love with weddings! I believe I was born as the wedding photographer.

So now I’m in business, where I want you smile. And kiss a lot!

Photography is my love and passion. And even more since I started to shoot weddings, because I see so much true emotions those days. Passion for light and storytelling lend me that special ability to capture emotional connection. The result? clear, unmistakable chemistry. My approach to photographing weddings is creating beautiful glamorous portraits with a fashion touch balanced with styled details as well as with timeless photojournalistic moments. This recipe tells the wedding story in an authentic and artful way that lays out beautifully for publication and wedding albums.

Has it been a smooth road?
Since the beginning it went pretty smoothly. I started to work for the best magazines and brands as a 22-year-old. Then I went to NYC for couple months and after I got back, I was so motivated the I was rocking everything. But as I mentioned before, I felt I miss something. So, I started modelling agency, then full service advertising agency which became pretty big, clients like VW or AT&T. So, I got a break from photography for 8 years. I mean from pro photography. When I was traveling, that’s another story. I still remember my 1st trip to Thailand, I shot 26 rolls of films.

Now, I know photography is my thing. Just coincidence that I got back into photography and now I’m here in Miami, and its again a full-time job for 100% of my time.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Freire Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I fell in love with wedding photography. And I think I’m kind of special. Doing 20 years fashion and glamour you have different eye and my wedding photography fits luxury brides. They all wanna look like from Vogue.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Definitely yes. In my opinion, photographers used to be sales people. They did not sell photography skills, they used to sell prints and albums. Nowadays they struggling because majority of their clients do not want to pay for prints anymore and photographers are not really confident to sell their skills.

I guess this industry is going to keep only the best of the best. Today, almost anyone can do great picture with their smartphone. 85% of people do not see real difference between good and mediocre picture so they do not want to pay.

You can’t be average anymore…
