Today we’d like to introduce you to Isabel Diez.
Hi Isabel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
WeAre Development LLC, also known as WeAre Dev, was born from a shared vision between my brother Daniel and I. Build a technology company rooted in a more human-centered model — one where talent is not treated simply as a resource, but as a community driven by purpose, belonging, and shared growth.
I was born in Medellín and later grew up in Bogotá, which gave me a broad understanding of Colombia’s entrepreneurial and talent ecosystem. Medellín has always remained home for me — my family resides there, and it’s where WeAre Dev was founded. Building my professional path between Colombia and the United States allowed me to develop a cross-cultural perspective that deeply shaped the company’s structure and strategy.
From the beginning, our ambition extended beyond delivering software solutions. We wanted to create an organization that contributes to the transformation of people’s lives — and ultimately society — through technology. We see technology as a catalyst for opportunity, economic mobility, and global integration. When developed responsibly and with intention, it can elevate individuals, strengthen communities, and create sustainable growth.
Internally, this philosophy translated into designing a company culture that prioritizes open communication, collaboration, and professional growth with purpose. The opportunity to help develop and position high-level Latin American talent in global markets has been fundamental to our vision. Supporting our team’s evolution — not only technically, but professionally and personally — is not a secondary outcome of our business model; it is central to it.
Strategically, we also chose to move beyond traditional corporate structures. Our business model is grounded in open innovation — recognizing that meaningful advancement happens through collaboration, the integration of external expertise, and the constant exchange of knowledge. We believe that the most sustainable companies are those that build ecosystems rather than silos.
At the same time, we identified a clear market opportunity. In the United States, startups and scaling companies face increasing demand for senior IT talent, yet accessing that talent locally can be costly and operationally complex. With a background in finance and international business, being both Colombian and American, and Daniel’s vision as a system engineer — grounded in advanced knowledge and expertise in emerging technologies, we were uniquely positioned to build a bridge that creates value on both sides.
That bridge became our nearshore model — connecting U.S.-based companies with senior-level technology talent across Latin America, operating within the same time zone to enable real-time collaboration and seamless integration.
Today, WeAre Dev partners with founders and organizations that are ready to evolve. We help them move from ideas to execution, from complexity to clarity, and from short-term solutions to sustainable systems. What inspires me most is seeing not only our clients scale with confidence, but witnessing the professional transformation of the talent behind every successful project.
For us, growth is not measured solely in revenue or expansion — it is measured in impact. And that impact begins with people.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the earliest and most personal challenges happened before WeAre Dev even officially started. Convincing my brother to take the leap was not easy. As siblings, we share trust, but we also share honesty—and he had learned to be cautious after previous experiences.
Those early conversations were not about rushing into a business idea, but about asking the right questions: Why now? Why together? And how would we do this differently? That process forced us to slow down, define our values clearly, and design a partnership built on transparency, respect, and long-term thinking.
As the company began to take shape, a new challenge emerged: shifting perceptions around the nearshore model. Many companies initially associate nearshore solutions with cost reduction rather than quality. A significant part of our journey has involved educating the market about the value of senior-level talent, real-time collaboration, and long-term continuity.
Building and sustaining a strong company culture while scaling has also required intention. Although we have a physical office in Medellín, our talent is distributed across different cities in Colombia. Creating a true sense of belonging across locations means investing in communication, alignment, and meaningful in-person connection.
Perhaps the most constant challenge has been growing without losing the human side of the business. Growth is exciting, but we are deliberate about protecting the principles that define WeAre Dev. Each challenge has helped us refine our model, strengthen our culture, and build a company that is both scalable and deeply people-centered.
In hindsight, those early challenges became some of our greatest strengths. They shaped how intentionally WeAre Dev was built—from the way we structure teams to how we approach relationships with clients. What began as resistance and uncertainty ultimately helped us create a company grounded in trust, alignment, and shared responsibility.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about WeAre Development LLC?
WeAre Development LLC, also known as WeAre Dev, is a nearshore technology company specializing in custom software development for startups and growing businesses.
We work primarily with companies in the financial services, fintech, and health sectors—industries where reliability, continuity, and trust are essential. Through our nearshore model, we connect U.S.-based companies with senior-level technology talent in Latin America, working within the same time zone. This enables real-time collaboration, seamless communication, and true integration with our clients’ teams.
Our capabilities include custom software development, application management and evolution, software engineering and analytics consulting, robotic process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence solutions, and nearshore dedicated talent—designed to support long-term growth and continuity rather than short-term delivery.
What truly defines WeAre Dev is our people-first approach. We focus on building long-term relationships instead of transactional engagements. By investing intentionally in our team’s culture, growth, and sense of belonging, we maintain low turnover. This stability provides our clients with continuity, deeper product and business understanding, and consistent delivery over time, which is especially important in highly regulated and fast-moving industries like fintech and healthcare.
Beyond execution, we act as strategic partners. We take the time to understand each client’s goals, challenges, and stage of growth, allowing us to design and build tailored solutions aligned with long-term business strategy. Our portfolio reflects this approach, emphasizing scalability, sustainability, and thoughtful execution.
Our development operations and physical office are based in Medellín, Colombia, where we have built a strong and connected team. At the same time, WeAre Dev maintains an active presence in the United States through its leadership and client-facing operations. I am based in the U.S. and work closely with our clients, overseeing relationships, strategy, and project alignment. This structure allows us to remain closely connected to the U.S. market while leveraging the strength of our nearshore teams.
What we are most proud of, brand-wise, is the culture and continuity we have built. WeAre Dev is not just a software development company—it is a long-term partner for businesses that value stability, trust, and intentional growth. Our mission is to help companies scale with clarity and confidence while creating meaningful opportunities for talented professionals to grow and feel genuinely valued.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can collaborate with WeAre Dev in different ways, depending on where they are in their journey.
For founders and growing companies, collaboration begins with a conversation. We partner with businesses looking for a long-term technology ally—supporting them through custom software development, nearshore dedicated teams, and ongoing technical collaboration designed to provide continuity and clarity as they scale. Our approach is rooted in open innovation, which serves as a strategic driver for our company. We believe meaningful progress happens when knowledge, perspectives, and capabilities come together to solve real industry challenges where technology can play a transformative role.
Our model is intentionally nearshore. While we work closely with U.S.-based clients, our technology talent is based in Latin America, where we have built strong, senior teams that operate within the same time zone. For that reason, we are not a platform for local job placement. Our focus is on building stable nearshore teams that integrate deeply with our clients and grow alongside them.
Beyond our client work, we believe that building a company also means staying connected to the communities we are part of. In Colombia, we actively support Transformasión, an independent foundation focused on creating opportunities through education and community development. Supporting causes like this reflects our belief that sustainable companies should grow with purpose and remain socially responsible.
We also welcome collaboration with founders, consultants, and organizations that share similar values and believe in long-term partnerships over transactional relationships. At WeAre Dev, growth has always been driven by trust, alignment, and meaningful collaboration.
