Thanks for sharing your story with us Iris. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have been a serial side-hustler ever since I graduated from college.
Fast forward a few years later and all of a sudden we’re living through a global pandemic: COVID19. So many of my close friends found themselves negatively impacted by the critical economic situation that hit us, and I, fortunately, found myself in a little bit of a safer territory thanks to my social media side-hustle clients.
I wanted to help my loved ones figure out a way to start a side-hustle for themselves to help them survive the crisis. I helped them brainstorm ways they could profit online off of their already existing skills and create an additional income stream in such a difficult global situation.
Several of my friends began being able to profit. My favorite example is my illustrator friend who began monetizing her Instagram page with a small following by offering personalized portraits, pet portraits, etc. (they sold like candy!)
And then I had what I call an “Aha!” moment.
If I could help my close circle figure out ways to make money off of their passions & skills and help them in such a hard situation, I could 100% share this message with more people.
That’s when Skills That Sell Academy was born.
Now, not only are we steadily growing in our number of listeners that tune in to each episode every Tuesday, but I began creating digital resources to help guide our listeners through the very first steps of creating this side hustle for themselves.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the major challenges has been to be able to understand how to best serve my audience. It is my #1 priority to help them with the tools & knowledge they actually need to have in order to start and grow a successful side-hustle from scratch!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Skills That Sell Academy – what should we know?
I host the Skills That Sell Academy Podcast. I help 9 to 5ers figure out the best way to make money off of their already existing skills, their passions, and what they’re really good at, so they can build a successful business from scratch.
I focus on helping these new entrepreneurs manage their time and resources so that they feel comfortable starting the business as a side-hustle until they’re able to take it on full-time
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I would probably say empathy. I think that being aware of others’ pains & struggles and really being able to understand them, has enabled me to always connect with people at a deeper level to understand how I can best serve them and help them build a successful online business while balancing their 9-5.
