Meet Irina Tolstaja of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Irina Tolstaja.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born in Moscow when the Soviet Union still existed, and from an early age I moved frequently, living in different countries — from the Baltic region to the UAE, Ukraine, and now the United States. This taught me to adapt easily and start over in new environments.

My path in the beauty industry developed gradually, without a clear plan at the beginning — through hands-on practice and a genuine interest in working with my hands. I have always had a strong love for painting and visual art, which naturally influenced my sense of aesthetics and later guided me into this field. Over time, I moved into permanent makeup and later into more specialized areas such as scalp micropigmentation and reconstructive procedures.

A particularly important part of my work is areola restoration after surgery. For me, this is not just an aesthetic procedure, but an essential part of helping a person regain confidence, wholeness, and a sense of self after difficult medical and life experiences. Overall, helping people and supporting their emotional well-being has become the core meaning of my profession.

Today, I have my own studio in the United States and a registered LLC. I continue to grow as a specialist and gradually expand into education and larger projects aimed at improving standards within the industry.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, this journey has not been smooth.

The biggest challenge for me has always been the need to start over in new countries and completely rebuild my life. Every move meant a new language, a new environment, and the absence of a stable foundation or familiar support system. It required constant inner focus and the ability to adapt faster than a sense of stability could develop.

In my professional life, the challenges were related to the fact that the beauty industry requires not only technical skills, but also recognition, trust, and a reputation that takes years to build. I had to work a lot, prove my level, find clients, and at the same time develop as a specialist in permanent makeup and scalp micropigmentation.

There was also a period when I lacked confidence in whether my path truly had value and direction. But over time, working with people—especially in such sensitive areas as areola restoration after surgery—helped me see the deeper meaning in what I do.

Today, I see all these difficulties not as obstacles, but as part of a journey that shaped me both as a professional and as a person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work in the field of permanent makeup and specialize in delicate and restorative procedures. My main areas of focus are permanent makeup, scalp micropigmentation, and reconstructive treatments.

A particularly important part of my practice is areola restoration after surgery. For me, this is one of the most meaningful and profound aspects of my work, as it is connected not only to appearance but also to a person’s inner state, confidence, and sense of wholeness after difficult life experiences.

Another key part of my work is scalp micropigmentation, which helps people experiencing hair loss or thinning visually restore density and regain confidence in themselves.

I am known for my attention to detail, soft and natural results, and a highly individual approach to each client. It is important for me not just to perform a procedure, but to truly understand the person and their needs, especially in restorative work.

What I am most proud of is that my work helps people feel better, more confident, and more at peace with themselves. This is the most meaningful result for me.

An important part of my life is painting—I create artworks. This is not only a personal creative practice but also a source of inspiration for my professional work. Painting develops my sense of color, form, and harmony, and it directly influences how I approach aesthetics and natural results in permanent makeup and reconstructive procedures.

What sets me apart is this combination of an artistic eye and a precise, almost medical-level approach, where accuracy, anatomy, and responsibility for results are essential.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wouldn’t say that my life has been built on luck. Rather, it has been shaped by constant decisions to keep moving forward, even when things were difficult or uncertain.

Of course, there have been moments that could be considered fortunate — such as meeting the right people at the right time who helped me grow, or opportunities that opened up when I was ready to take them. At times these looked like coincidences, but over time I realized that such “coincidences” often come as a result of inner movement and readiness to act.

At the same time, there were difficult periods that could be seen as bad luck — relocations, having to start over from scratch, and professional doubts. But in the end, these experiences shaped my character, discipline, and resilience.

That’s why I see luck not as a driving force, but rather as a complement. The main factors in my journey have been consistency, hard work, and a willingness to grow through any circumstances.
