Meet Irina Rostova

Today we’d like to introduce you to Irina Rostova.

Irina, before we jump into specific questions about your practice, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, I worked in bank management at Chase Bank. I found out about a government investor visa program (EB-5 Visa) that allows foreign nationals to obtain US residency when they finance projects that create jobs in the US market. I loved the idea of working with a program that helps entrepreneurial families to relocate to the United States while benefiting the American economy through job creation.

I decided to make that program the primary focus of my legal practice. Clients recognized and appreciated the expertise that I and my staff were able to provide to them, which allowed for me to expand my practice. Currently, we represent hundreds of EB-5 investors. It is tremendously fulfilling to see our clients succeed and the benefit their projects bring to the U.S. communities.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I do not know a single entrepreneur who is not faced with unexpected struggles along the way. I have experienced a wide range of exciting challenges, establishing and growing a business with no start-up capital, facing the industry and law-based changes that affected the services we provided, and personal challenges of having to balance parenting and work obligations.

I think a positive and a realistic attitude are key in overcoming challenges. Accepting that almost nothing in business will ever go perfectly in accordance with the plan allows you to be flexible and to problem-solve along the way.

We’d love to hear more about your practice.
I am an immigration lawyer who specialized in working with an EB-5 Investor Visa program. The program allows foreign nationals to obtain U.S. residency (Green Card) if they invest in qualifying projects that create ten or more permanent jobs for American workers. Although the program is still not well known to the public, it has become a $7 billion dollar industry (based on an annual investment amount).

I built a law firm that is nationally recognized for our work with investor visas. Last year we were one of only ten law firms in the United States who qualified for an award for excellence for successful work with the EB-5 Investor Visa program. I personally was named a Top 25 Immigration Attorney by EB-5 Investor Visa magazine, a recognition based on an industry vote of professionals and investors. I am a frequent speaker at national and international conferences for high net worth individuals and professionals.

I am very proud of the level of service we provide. No matter how much we grow, we try to build an internal structure of pairing our staff with clients, where each client receives the individual attention that they deserve.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
They say luck is preparation meets opportunity. I have definitely had moments of rapid growth because of large clients. But none of those clients would have ever hired us if we did not have a great track record that we built over the years. So I would say being lucky is not important, it is important to be ready and to be patient. Opportunities will arise; focus on being the best person for the job, then you will benefit from those opportunities as they come.
