Today we’d like to introduce you to Indira Cristin.
Indira, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
About three years ago I decided to bake my own healthy snacks. I was driven by the fact I was getting a sugar rush craving after each of my CrossFit classes.
At first I tried many of the healthy vegan and gluten free recipes I found online with not success, however after several attempts of mixing different ingredients and coming out with new ideas I found the secret of my very own muffin, rich, moist and sweet enough for me.
My challenge did not stop as I wanted to create more snacks with a similar taste that of the muffins so I came out with cookies, cupcakes, brownies, you name it. During this process I was able to master these great and delicious bites. This is when I realized I have found my calling and passion in life… this is how Bettersweets bites was born!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been a long and bumpy road with many ups as well as downs, nevertheless I truly feel all of these experiences have help me learn, grow and focus my company to where I wanted to be.
Starting any new business is difficult and very challenging especially considering that I’m originally from a foreign country. Rather than dueling in this fact it ignited my willingness to understand the local culture and all the vibes and tastes locals love.
I only wish I have found out about my passion earlier to dedicate more of my life to it.
Please tell us about Bettersweet Bites.
Bettersweet Bites is an online local vegan Bakery that also offers some gluten free options. We specialize in customized cakes, cupcakes, cookies and cake pops for any special occasion. Our designs and flavors are unique because we use the best ingredients and the decorations are made by ME. I always try to impress our customers with creative and modern style.
Carrot cake is my most popular cake flavor and unicorns are the most requested decoration. I can say that I’ve made any possible variation of the unicorns in terms of colors, flavors and sizes.
We take care of our customers from the moment they contact us to the moment they pick up their orders. We’re always willing to assist them and our mission is to make them happy in their special occasions with our delicious and beautiful sweets and cakes
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is stealing sugar flowers from my grandmother’s cakes. My grandma was a very talented cake designer in my home country (Venezuela). I visited her weekly and it always happen to be the day she was prepping all orders for her customers. Her sugar flowers were not only beautiful but also delicious and my sister and I used to eat them (steal them…) when she was distracted, obviously she would always find out as our bad stomach ache was our telltale.
