Meet Ianthia Ferguson of Miami / South Florida

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ianthia Ferguson.

Hi Ianthia, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a media maven with more than 20 years in the industry. I’ve always known this is what I wanted to do; working as a student writer for the local newspaper in the 10th grade, moving on to a full-time writer there, transitioning into broadcasting where I stayed for more than 10 years. But in 2014 I left mainstream media to pursue digital marketing and content creation. During that time I created two TV shows, worked as a freelance writer, content coach, TV and live event host and media consultant. But my love for news and mainstream media was still there, so in 2024 I returned to the national broadcasting station in The Bahamas where I currently serve as deputy director of digital news and producer for the “Access Now” entertainment news show. But the community I built during my decade as an entrepreneur is still very important to me, so I also lead a community of women entrepreneurs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s absolutely not been a smooth road. I think self-doubt and imposter syndrome have been my biggest challenges on this journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently I wear several hats, professionally.

Deputy director of digital news: in this capacity I oversee my company’s social media platforms. Leading a team of six, I ensure our online presence is current, accurate and on the pulse. I also work to ensure we’re generating stories that inspire and entertain.

Producer of Access Now: This one I’m really excited about! I bring to life a 30-minute human interest news show that features the light and light-hearted news of the day. I love writing the scripts, choosing the guests, picking the visuals and seeing it all come to life with our hosts. i recently made some changes to the original format to bring a fresh, new spin to the show and already it’s gotten great reviews.

Community leader: During my time as a freelancer, I found myself incredibly bored and lonely, especially during the Christmas holidays. So in 2017, I randomly hopped on instagram stories to invite other girl bosses to join me for a Christmas luncheon. Twelve women showed up and the “I Work For my D*mn Self” community was born. Since then, I’ve hosted nearly 200 women entrepreneurs, freelancers, aspiring entrepreneurs, freelancers, creatives and remote workers during the Christmas. Our events help them to feel supported, they get to meet and network with like minds and enjoy an “office” party! This June we launched a new event; a summer brunch, More than 60 women attended.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Just start! it doesn’t have to be perfect, in fact no one expects it to be! I’ve found the most beautiful parts of this journey have been in the mistakes. That’s there I learn the most, find my strength and it’s what gives me something to look forward to.

And as for content: just post it! I recently had a video go viral and it was so unexpected! I’m not even seen in the video, but it shows my daughter running to me with my work ID asking, “why would you be the employee?” She saw the world “employ” and was immediately baffled that I wasn’t the boss. the video was in low light, no fancy edits, no fancy text, no mic plugged in: just a raw, honest and relatable moment with my daughter. It was posted in April 2026 and to this day (July 31, 2026) has 2.5 million views. The lesson here: just post the content!
