Meet Hugo Guzman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hugo Guzman.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Hugo. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a local musician and activist here in Miami. I was born in Argentina but immigrated to Miami at the age of five. I experienced some of the best and worst that Miami had to offer and eventually made my way to NYC in pursuit of business and financial success. But somewhere along the way, I ended up falling into the local music scene in NYC and Hoboken, NJ.

Since returning to Miami in 2015, I’ve been gradually integrating myself into the local music scene as well as working with a variety of volunteer and advocacy groups. Those are currently my two primary personal endeavors along with my very profound devotion to surfing.

I’m also a father to two young sons and the owner of an online furniture business.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I suppose that as with most things, it was a little of both. I’ve had some success, both personally and professionally, but I’ve also been through some very rough stretches such as divorcing the mother of my children.

Please tell us about your work.
I suppose that I’m known for trying to help build the local live music scene as well as advocating for and mentoring youngsters of various ages and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Best: The surfable waves on South Beach and great music venues like Churchill’s Pub and Luna Star Cafe,

Worst: The culture of intense consumerism and superficiality.
