Amy, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a formal student, I know how hard it is to balance, life, family, and school. One day, I realized there was a shortage in affordable career training for those who seek marketable skills. The more I looked around, the more it was clear that. In today’s competitive world, our country’s economic strength truly depends on the skills and education of its workers. Being the daughter of immigrant parents, I lived to see how hard my mother worked to be able to feed and educate me. Going to school for her was a desire that seemed so far due to fact that her priority was stronger than her desire…. Raising her daughter, without a trade or a school that could work with her schedule and guide her along the way, it can be overwhelming. I truly believe that knowledge is power and what better way to help my community or help others like my mother who wants to obtain a trade or a career and feel it is so far-fetched. All those thoughts led to Hollywood Career Institute.
The programs here at Hollywood Career Institute are designed to help students obtain skills and knowledge in fields that are in high demand. We offer day, evening, and weekend classes. We offer bilingual classes, resume building skills, mock interviews and much more. Hollywood Career Institute is the school I envisioned my mother or someone like her would have enrolled many years ago, or anyone else who is trying to balance life in this complex world we live in while obtaining a affordable career.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If I say that it has been a smooth road, then I wouldn’t be honest with you. There have been good, bad, and overwhelming moments. However, I wouldn’t call them struggles, I like to reference each and every moment as a learning experience. Some good and some bad, but at the end they have all taught me a different lessons. Which have led to where I stand today, and to what Hollywood Career Institute Represent.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Hollywood Career Institute story. Tell us more about the business.
Hollywood Career Institute offers effective short term careers/programs designed to achieve the goals of the individual learner. We offer programs such as Patient Care Technician, Medical Billing and Coding, Phlebotomy Technician, Home Health Aide, Real Estate and so much more. There are so many things I am the most proud of, but I think the one that stands out the most is that at the end of the day we make a huge impact in the individual and in our community. For example, we start with individual who is looking to start a new career as a Patient Care Tech, 8 months later we have trained a highly skilled PCT, who will be the person who will one day maybe take care of you or your mother, or a loved one. The same person who was once a student here, is now a Licensed Patient Care Technician working at a local hospital who is now providing care for others. There is no bigger reward that that, at least not for me. What sets me apart from others is simple, our students are our family, and like all families you want to see your family members excel, strive, and succeed and those are the goals we have for our students.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck? I am not sure if luck has played a part on my life or in my business. I can tell you that I have worked hard and put in a lot of time and energy to make sure that my ducks are in a row. I always try to envision were I want to be and then step back and look at where I am. Then, I think about what I need to change in order to be go from what I would like, to where I am. Maybe luck has been on my side, but I would also say faith. You must have faith in what you do.
