Today we’d like to introduce you to Helena Jose.
Hi Helena, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I saw my first bar magazine in 2018 in Paris, called Barmag and I was attracted by the cocktail on the cover, I thought what a fantastic idea to create a local magazine dedicated to mixology, bars, and bartenders. I started in 2019 and by March 2020 all the bars were closed. That was a big challenge, lots of staff were hired and I began to share resources with them and became a bridge between brands and bartenders to help them during these times.
I met a wonderful community behind the beverage industry that I love supporting and highlighting on my platform. I could put beverage programs on press releases, educate consumers about new spirits launching events, and even sustainable efforts by such brands. I have opened doors to this community to be known, not only the chef are part of the experience in a restaurant anymore but the cocktail creators and sommeliers as well.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are several struggles along the way, but only to teach you lessons and improve your business. The pandemic closing all businesses. My domain was stolen, my writers were not reliable, doing a lot of work for free, spending my own money, time, and energy to support other people, and having a baby with no family support/help.
There was a time I couldn’t keep publishing articles anymore, but I was present on Social Media, enough to keep my followers engaged until I finally balanced things out.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about 2oz Miami Bar Magazine?
2ozMag as everybody knows it, is the first and only local magazine dedicated to Miami’s Bar Scene. A medley of trending bars, liquors, exotic cocktails, and the best bartenders in town. Events, insights, and interviews. Profiles, ongoing happy hours. All and everything related to the city’s beverage industry, company culture, traditions, and ambassadors.
I write about the local new cocktail menu in town, and all the people behind the bar making changes and crafting great experiences for all patrons and the industry community, we do content creation, PR partnerships, event coverage, editorials, and amazing events!
Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
The bartender community in Miami is so supportive of each other, just to show them your support by going to their events and networking organically, you are really making new friends.
