Today we’d like to introduce you to HeartbreakJP.
HeartbreakJP, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
From the jump, I’ve always been in love with the sound & frequencies of music. Back when I was a jit around 9 or 10 is when I truly grew my appreciation for music, to me early 2000’s was a great time for hiphop. I remember my pops would tape the shows like rap city the basement or 106&park music videos just for me to watch later on I never understood why he did but I thank him for that because he engaged me into the music scene early on as a child never would’ve thought today that I’d be inspired by those days & doing the same I seen my favorite artists doing which is creating dope music for the people of our generation. As a kid, I would dream of being the next lil bow wow or Romeo I’d even go as far as writing down Lil Wayne lyrics until I fully knew the song because he was my favorite rapper.
Once highschool hit thats when I started finding myself and hidden talents in the year of 2010 my sophomore term I wrote my first rap & joined a well known collective with my best homies called the Spacelights Gang although we were young it was a great time to be around a group of friends that inspired me to make the best music I could & grow as an artist. I’d say I didn’t take my craft and making music serious until the year 2015 realizing how far I could really take this passion of mines after hearing the growth & seeing the positive feedback from people around my city as well as on the internet that made me wanna go harder with this music shit & since then I’ve been reaching for the stars and leaving my mark around Palm Beach.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some may think being an artist is a smooth & easy road but it’s far from that. People don’t know the struggles that it takes to be one from not having the funds to pay for studio time, or family not fully supporting your dreams sometimes not understanding the love & passion that you have for your craft & why you go so hard for what you believe in which is yourself at the end of the day. Nowadays it’s different because you have kids blowing up with the strength of social media meanwhile they don’t really even love this music shit or take it seriously like myself or others that I know that have been doing it for years so that’s the only frustrating thing or struggle that I see but then that I’m not one to complain because I feel like everyone will have their time to shine its just a long road to get where you wanna go but in the end, people will see the vision & it’ll all be worth it because some of the biggest artist known today go through the hardest struggles to get where their at.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I feel like what sets me apart from others today is that I’m very versatile when it comes to making music I don’t consider myself a “rapper” when people ask me what do I do. I view myself as an artist because I love making music in general whether it’s a rap song or r&b track I could take a song to a whole different level with my melodies and always felt like I could do more than just rap like the average or sound the same as the next person around.
