Meet Hannah Mejia of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Mejia.

Hi Hannah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a San Diego native and have always been immersed in an artistic culture. I started my journey with hair 15 years ago and have loved it every step of the way. I love being a colorist and helping transform clients into who they truly dream to be with their authentic self. I am an international educator with Danger Jones and enjoy traveling to educate and meet new artists around the world!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have two sons and having them at a young age this industry has been so good to me. Being a single mom for a good chunk of time was really my only struggle to feel as though I was spread thin between mom love and behind the chair. But all of my clients were so great and supportive through a hard time in my life and I’m forever grateful for that.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in all color, but what I’m more known for is my creative bold colors. I love helping client express themselves through their hair color and I love creating something new to match lifestyles and personalities. I work for an amazing color brand Danger Jones that truly does put the artist first so it’s great to have that support behind me. I won a Behind the Chair Award in 2024, which is a global hair competition. I feel like who I am personally is what sets me apart from other artists. I really truly love sitting with my clients and getting to know them so I can really
Customized their hair to fit who they are as an individual themselves

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
While in school they tell you to do and try everything and I really think that’s so important. If you feel passionate about one thing after that then stick with it! Continued education is a huge part of the industry since it’s always changing, and for networking as well! You’re growing yourself and your community. Graduating from school I found a commission salon to assist stylists and continue to grow myself and work my way up from there.
