Today we’d like to introduce you to Estefania Landazuri.
Estefania, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Like everything in life, I started only with the idea of being recognized as a good Graphic Designer and being the “go-to” person when it came to creating creative content and art. I started off as a freelancer, doing pretty much any job I could get my hands on.
Whatever job people didn’t want to do I’ll be the one doing it, I had no direction or knowledge of how the “field” works, but I had to start somewhere. I knew what I wanted just not how to get there. I started studying Graphic and Web Design at the Art Institute of Miami “MIU” at the same time working full time at an office and freelancing on the side.
After three years of on and off freelancing, I decided that if I wanted people to take me more serious, then I needed a team, and needed a “small business” that is how I created “BeeHyped Design Studio” and the adventure started. I remember my first months I printed our flyers and business cards, I will pass them around all over the place. I would go to events in Wynwood and stick them in the car windshields, or go inside the galleries and started talking to people and giving them my business card.
I got one, then two and three clients, and all came in flooding with referrals and word of mouth. It takes a lot of effort, and a lot of time and patience to build from zero, but its oh! So totally worth it, this past 2017 I was able to build more clients, that are not retainer clients, and we have been able to establish a month to month work plan!
I am proud of myself, and my new Junior Designer that thank God started working with me in September 2017. After all these years, I have a little team, even if we are only two people, we are one. The grind continues and the dream just gets bigger!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not at all. More DOWNS than UPS. But I take all those as teaching lessons, mistakes build you! Struggles come from all parts, from learning your accounting on your own, building clientele, delivering good quality work and delivering work on time! I think I am a good example of #teamnosleep I am a night owl and an early bird all in one! A cup of coffee is definitely my best friend!
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about BeeHyped Design Studio – what should we know?
I do graphic/web and social media content creation. I specialize mostly in branding or “rebranding”. I have helped many small/medium size businesses start up or rebrand themselves to bring in more traffic and sales. I am proud of my work and happy that I am able to always bring in my clients ideas and visions to life. I understand their needs from very little detail, and I know how to guide them in the way that will help them nurture their business.
I mostly do my business online, but I love visiting my clients once/twice a month to sit down and analyze how we are growing, I consider myself part of their team, and I think it gives them a sense of “home” and that is a feeling that you don’t get so much of nowadays. Building trust is what I like, and trust takes you many many places.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Life runs faster than I do, and since I started this since I was in College, YouTube was my ally when I needed to do something that was still very new to me, it was a challenge but it helps a lot! My teammate Miley Mendoza is a great designer herself and has helped the both of us grow this past 2017. She has the eye for it, and the chemistry between us made us a great duo! Happy Teammates, happy Clients!
