Meet Eric Poses of All Things Equal

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Poses.

Eric, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started my board game company 20 years ago at the age of 23 when I drove around the country for 16 weeks selling my first board game invention, Loaded Questions, out of the trunk of my car. Today, Loaded Questions, and my entire line of family/party games, including Awkward Family Photos, Meet Your Match and the new My Weird School Game, have sold more than 2.5 million copies and generated $25 million in retail sales.

And I followed up my inaugural 1997 cross-country drive with three additional road trips, including two trips in a custom RV that featured all of my games.

Has it been a smooth road?
For the most part, running my business these last 20 years has been great. I love playing board games and I love developing them.

My biggest struggle is learning to listen to my test play participants, instead of simply developing products that I think are great! I wish I had not gone to production on a few duds along the way, but I love my current line of games and am looking forward to the next 20 years.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am a board game inventor…but as part of running my one-man board game company, I also have to be a salesman, a marketer, an accountant, shipper, intern and everything else that is the life of an entrepreneur.

The most important thing to me is maintaining a proper work/life balance, which I’m proud to say is intact!

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Miami, like many other cities, does not have many specialty toy/game stores, like many cities in the midwest, northwest and northeast…but that is because our beautiful weather keeps people outdoors…instead of being cooped up playing board games!

But I grew up in Miami and moved back 10 years ago and know so many fun, creative people in this city…so I feel Miami is as good a place as any to run a board game company!
