Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Elliott.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my journey in the beauty industry almost 20 years ago in Canada. I graduated beauty school and began working in spas as an esthetician/makeup artist. I loved being in a spa and stayed at one for over six years. There I built a great clientele and it was very hard when I decided to move out of Canada and take my career to the big city of New York. Here I wanted to grow more in the makeup field and instantly started working with Mac cosmetics.
This was the company I was longing to work for because here I learned so much about makeup and got many certifications and also worked on some major fashion shows with designers such as dolce and gabanna. After three years I transferred with the company down to Miami and began working at the Mac in Saks fifth avenue Bal Harbour. I stayed there for six years and grew into a 3rd key position in management. It was an amazing place for me to grow my clientele here in Miami and met so many amazing people.
My goal eventually was to work for myself as a makeup artist so a year and a half ago I had my daughter and while wanting to spend as much time as I could with her I left the company. Here is where I am at now working as a freelance makeup artist and doing many events such as weddings, bat and bar mitzvahs, parties, makeup lessons, and much more. I am always growing and building my clientele and I recently started freelancing with a salon called Lahh salon. My plan is continue in my career and would love to start doing big classes teaching women how to do their basic makeup routine at home. I look forward to my continued growth in this amazing industry.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course with working for yourself, there is challenges. There are busy times here in Miami but slow times as well. So I just make sure to use my time wisely in slow time and find ways to advance myself in my career.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
My style in makeup artistry is more on the natural side. My clients love how I make them glamourous with a natural feel at the same time. Also listening to what they want is very important and understanding exactly what they are looking for. As I’m able to go from a very natural look for some people but much more glam for others.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
This past year on my own as a freelance artist. I’ve achieved much more than I thought and expected. It’s always scary to make the jump and work solely for yourself but my first year has been a success.
