Meet Eileen of EMN Counseling

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eileen.

Hi Eileen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been a Psychotherapist in South Florida for 27 years. Born and raised in Miami to Cuban exile parents, I grew up surrounded by the values they instilled in me of hard work, resilience, and compassion. These guiding principles shaped not only who I am as a person but also the therapist I became.

Early in my career, I worked with children while pursuing a path toward becoming a School Counselor. After becoming a Certified Teacher and entering graduate school, the department head encouraged me to change my major to Mental Health Counseling so I could work with adults. She recognized a gift in my ability to connect deeply with people and believed I could make a meaningful impact beyond the school setting. I am forever grateful for that guidance.

I began working in the community as a Psychotherapist, serving people in diverse and challenging circumstances including individuals experiencing homelessness, children in foster care, residents in treatment facilities, those struggling with addiction, and families in crisis. I collaborated with community agencies, schools, and shelters, gaining a firsthand understanding of resilience in the face of hardship.

During this time, I went through a personal crisis of my own, which led me to discover Clinical Hypnotherapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). The healing and transformation I experienced were profound and deepened my self-awareness and spiritual growth, while strengthening my belief in the human capacity to heal. After a decade of community work, I opened my private practice in Coral Gables in 2010, specializing in helping individuals of all ages reconnect with their inner strength through Clinical Hypnotherapy, EMDR, Mindfulness, and traditional Psychotherapy.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not always a smooth road. Working in the community often means withnessing the harsh realities many people face including families living in unsafe or unsanitary conditions to children experiencing neglect or abuse. It brings you close to the struggles of underprivileged individuals battling food insecurity, addiction, and the lasting effects of poverty. These experiences can be both deeply humbling and emotionally challenging, revealing the urgent need for compassion, understanding, and empathy.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

EMN Counseling exists to remind people that healing is possible, that they are not broken, and that they already carry within them everything they need to thrive. Eileen truly feels honored and privileged to have a special role in her clients lives.

How do you think about luck?
I’ve come to see luck as something far greater than coincidence — more like divine timing or alignment. Every experience, whether it felt like good luck or bad luck in the moment, has had a purpose in shaping who I am and the work I do every day.

The moments that seemed like setbacks often carried the greatest lessons, guiding me toward deeper empathy, patience, and faith. The people who appeared on my path at just the right time, the opportunities that seemed to unfold effortlessly felt like gentle reminders from the universe that I was exactly where I was meant to be.

I don’t believe in luck as random chance, but rather as grace. The unseen hand that supports us when we take courageous steps toward our purpose. Every twist and turn, both beautiful and difficult, has played a sacred role in aligning me with my mission to help others heal and transform becoming the best version of themselves.
