Hi Drew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a Dominican-American household in South Florida, I was surrounded by different sounds and cultures—from merengue and salsa to freestyle, hip-hop, pop, and electronic music. I began DJing at a young age, and what started as a passion quickly became something I knew I wanted to pursue professionally.
In 2016, I founded Xpress Entertainment as a one-man operation while working at a wedding venue in Pompano Beach. Those early events taught me that being a great wedding DJ involves much more than playing good music. You have to understand the flow of an event, connect with people, read the room, communicate clearly, and make every couple and family feel represented. Being bilingual in English and Spanish became an important part of that mission, especially when working with South Florida’s multicultural families.
Building the business came with plenty of learning experiences. I had to grow from being solely a performer into becoming a business owner, team leader, marketer, and mentor. I learned how to create systems, develop other talented DJs and maintain the level of personalized service that helped establish our reputation—even as the number of events continued to grow.
Today, Xpress Entertainment has evolved into a full wedding and event entertainment team serving Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, the Florida Keys, and beyond. We now perform at more than 100 weddings annually and provide DJs, bilingual MCs, photo booths, lighting, cold sparks, dancing-on-the-clouds effects, and other enhancements. I’m proud that we have grown without losing the personal connection that started everything. Whether I’m behind the DJ booth or helping lead the team, the goal remains the same: bring people and cultures together, create unforgettable moments, and give every couple a celebration that truly feels like their own.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road. One of my earliest challenges was being a young entrepreneur and having to prove that my age did not define my ability, professionalism, or commitment. When you are young, people sometimes assume you lack experience or that your business is simply a hobby. I had to earn credibility by being prepared, delivering consistently, and allowing the quality of my work to speak for itself.
I also started Xpress Entertainment entirely with my own money. There were no investors or major financial backers behind me. Every speaker, light, computer, marketing expense, and business investment came from what I earned. In the beginning, that often meant reinvesting in the company instead of paying myself. Managing the seasonal and sometimes unpredictable nature of the wedding industry required patience, sacrifice, careful planning, and the willingness to take calculated risks without knowing exactly when they would pay off.
Being an LGBTQ+ entrepreneur has added another layer to the journey. The world is not always kind or accepting toward our community, and working with different people in different environments has sometimes meant navigating assumptions and deciding where it felt safe to be completely open. At the same time, my identity has helped shape the inclusive company I want Xpress Entertainment to be. I want every couple—regardless of who they love, where they come from, or what their family looks like—to feel respected, welcomed, and genuinely celebrated.
Another challenge has been balancing my club persona with the professionalism required of a wedding DJ. The confidence, creativity, energy, and freedom I developed through nightlife are important parts of DJ Drew. Weddings, however, also require detailed planning, polished communication, emotional awareness, and the ability to connect with several generations at once. I never wanted to erase one side of myself to make the other more acceptable. Instead, I learned how to bring the excitement of the club into a wedding environment while maintaining the professionalism and attention to detail that such an important occasion deserves.
In the beginning, I wore every hat: DJ, MC, salesperson, marketer, technician, accountant, and customer-service representative. As the company grew, I had to learn how to delegate and trust other people with a reputation I had worked hard to build. Developing a team also meant creating systems and standards that would allow us to handle more events while maintaining the consistent quality and personal attention our clients expected.
Finding balance has been another ongoing challenge. Entertainment often means working nights, weekends, and holidays while everyone else is celebrating. There is pressure to remain energetic and present, even after handling the planning, logistics, and physical work behind the scenes. Learning to protect my mental health, set boundaries, and make space for a personal life has been essential to building a career that is sustainable.
Every challenge has made me more disciplined, resilient, and confident in who I am. The journey has not always been easy, but building something independently, authentically, and from the ground up has made every milestone much more meaningful.

We serve couples throughout Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Palm Beach, and beyond, providing professional DJs and MCs, ceremony audio, photo booths, lighting, cold sparks, dancing-on-the-clouds effects, and other event enhancements.
What sets us apart is our ability to combine the excitement of nightlife with the organization and professionalism a wedding requires. We do not simply arrive with a predetermined playlist and press play. We take the time to learn each couple’s story, musical preferences, cultural background, and vision for the celebration. Then we read the room in real time, adjusting the music and energy so multiple generations and cultures can enjoy the same dance floor.
As a bilingual English- and Spanish-speaking company, we are especially known for multicultural weddings. Our open-format DJs can move seamlessly between reggaeton, salsa, merengue, bachata, hip-hop, pop, EDM, throwbacks, and wedding classics without making the experience feel disconnected. Our MCs also understand that great hosting is not about constantly talking—it is about guiding the evening confidently, making every guest feel included, and knowing exactly when to bring the energy.
We also understand that entertainment affects much more than the dancing. It shapes the flow of the entire celebration, from the ceremony and cocktail hour to introductions, speeches, special dances, and the final song. That is why preparation, communication, backup equipment, and attention to detail are just as important to us as the performance itself.
I am most proud that Xpress Entertainment grew from a self-funded, one-person operation into a full team serving more than 100 weddings each year without losing the personal connection on which it was built. Every member of our team is expected to deliver the same combination of preparation, personality, inclusivity, and genuine care.
Ultimately, our goal is not simply to play music. We want to create the kind of celebration where couples can be fully present, families from different backgrounds feel connected, and guests leave talking about the dance floor for years afterward.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Aside from the days my sisters were born, one of my favorite childhood memories involves my mom and the song “Hey Ya!” by Outkast. Growing up, my mom lived in a different state, so whenever the song came on the radio, I would call her so we could share that moment together. To me, it became “our song” and a small way of feeling close to her despite the distance between us.
Years later, I discovered that she was never actually a fan of the song—which makes the memory even funnier and more meaningful. She learned to love it because I loved it and because of what it represented to us. Looking back, it reminds me that music has always been more than entertainment in my life. Even as a child, I understood its ability to connect people, preserve memories, and make distance feel a little smaller.
