Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Rhoda Moise. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Rhoda Moise, Ph.D., CYT (Dr. Rho, she/her/li/ella/elle) is an internationally trained scientist, artist, and educator that helps communities live their healthiest lives. She graduated with honors from the Pennsylvania State University earning a B.S. in Biobehavioral Health with minors in Biology and Health Policy and Administration focused on global chronic disease prevention and control.
She then earned her Ph.D. in Prevention Science and Community Health from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where she is now appointed as an Assistant Professor focused on chronic disease prevention and control from a biopsychosocial approach using integrative medicine and epidemiology.
Additionally, she also completed a 200-hour certification to teach Ancient Egyptian yoga alongside a T32 postdoctoral fellowship at Temple University’s Fox Chase Cancer Center. Dr. Rho’s goal is to eliminate the inequitable distribution of disease with innovative strategies to catalyze the transformation of health systems with stakeholders including patients, providers, and payers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Born in Philadelphia, PA with immigrant parents from Haiti, Dr. Rho learned the values of resilience, education, and community from an early age. As a child, she witnessed first-hand the impacts of chronic disease on her family and community group as well as the need for better access to healthcare, the healing power of artistic expression, and the importance of health education.
From these experiences, Dr. Rho was motivated to found her health and wellness firm, Dr. Rho Wellness, to provide speaking, consulting, and training services in diverse settings including K-12 schools, colleges and universities, non-profits, and private workplaces in the U.S. and abroad.
We’ve been impressed with Dr. Rho Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As a health and wellness consultant, she uses professional mixed methods research education and experience to foster fruitful collaborations with organizations from conceptualization to completion of projects and programs.
Additionally, Dr. Rho’s interactive speaking style captivates a wide variety of audiences from students to staff in casual to corporate settings (in-person and virtually). Her comprehensive, soulful, and scientific skillset uniquely poises her to provide premium training experiences for individuals and institutions seeking to cultivate cultures of wellness.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Since I do not believe in coincidence, I like to reframe luck more as a concept of favor.
favor
fa·vor
/ˈfāvər/
: an act of kindness beyond what is due or usual
Folks always say favor ain’t fair, AND they forget that favor ain’t free either. It’s like the law in physics that energy is never created or destroyed, just transferred into another form.
Quick example story: I decided to go to a live music performance at the art center last minute. I went to the busy box office 20 mins into the show and waited to be called next at will call to purchase my ticket. Right then, a perfect stranger came up to me and offered me their ticket for free. That, my friends, is favor.
Favor feels like:
• right place, right time
• a warm hug
• coming in the clutch in the 4th
• an inside joke
• skipping the club line
• answered prayers
• backstage passes
• a miracle
• VIP treatment
• divine intervention (like not getting the job but finding out the environment was toxic)
Favor is earned by:
• paying it forward
• excellent karma
• consistent gratitude
• pure conscience and kind intent
• clean and healthy gut
• tithing (time, money, anything of value)
• being of service & volunteerism
• doing shadow work
• doing light work
• observing spiritual virtues (e.g., 42 laws of Maat, Torah, commandments, Qur’an)
As you move in favor, remember to evaluate, have you been doing the work?
In loving wellness,
Dr. Rho.
