Meet Doralice Dolabany of MDO INC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doralice Dolabany.

Hi Doralice, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Like many others, I came to Miami in search of a better future — and by the grace of God, doors have always opened for me. From the very first day I set foot in this city, I knew Miami was where I belonged.

My journey began humbly. I worked as a nanny for an English family for two years — an experience that taught me discipline, gratitude, and resilience. Later, I had the opportunity to join the optical industry, selling lenses, and that’s where I discovered my true passion.

One day, an idea sparked: What if I started my own small business from home, exporting optical products to Latin America? And so I did. Not long after, I was invited to work for a weekend at an international optical fair in New York. That trip changed my life — it’s where I met my husband, Mark Dolabany, the talented designer behind Dolabany Eyewear.

We got married and lived in Boston for several years. Before the birth of our first daughter, Mark decided to relocate the business to Miami — a city full of opportunities and energy. We packed everything and started a new chapter under the Florida sun, where we still live and work today.

Once we settled, I decided to launch my own company focused on importing and exporting eyewear and frames exclusively to Latin America. While my husband’s niche was the U.S. market, mine was entirely dedicated to serving optical professionals across Latin America — and that difference became our strength.

As the industry evolved, I realized that the future would be digital. In 2007, I designed and launched MayoristasdeOpticas.com, transforming my business from a traditional company into a modern B2B online platform — created specifically for the Spanish-speaking optical market.

From day one, everything I’ve built has been guided by faith, vision, and execution. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every challenge has been a lesson. After more than 30 years in the industry, I’m still learning every day — and still deeply grateful for the light and purpose that brought me here.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all — but I truly believe every challenge was a step toward growth.

When I started, I had no investors, no roadmap, and no business degree — just a deep faith, determination, and the conviction that hard work always opens doors. The early days were full of long nights, language barriers, and learning everything by doing. I handled orders, customer service, packaging, and accounting — all from my small home office.

Working in a male-dominated industry also came with its own set of challenges. Many didn’t take me seriously at first, but I learned to let results speak louder than words. Every satisfied client, every successful shipment, every partnership built on trust gave me strength to keep moving forward.

When technology started to transform the optical world, I faced another obstacle: how to adapt a traditional wholesale business into the digital age. In 2007, when I launched MayoristasdeOpticas.com, there weren’t many online B2B platforms in Spanish — it was a bold step into unknown territory. But faith, perseverance, and vision made it possible.

Looking back, I can say the road was not smooth, but it was meaningful. Every challenge taught me resilience, patience, and gratitude. And today, I’m proud that those struggles became the foundation of everything we’ve built.

Of course! I’m the founder and CEO of Mayoristas de Ópticas, a wholesale platform created especially for optical professionals and distributors across Latin America and the U.S.

We know our clients personally, and we treat them like partners, not just customers.

I’m most proud of how far we’ve come. What started as a small home-based export business has become a leading B2B platform in Miami — a trusted name that represents innovation, reliability, and passion for the optical industry.

Absolutely — I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible people God has placed in my life along the way.

First and foremost, I have to thank my husband, Mark Dolabany. He’s not only my life partner but also a constant source of inspiration and strength. Mark, the designer behind Dolabany Eyewear, has always believed in me and supported my vision. While his focus has been on the U.S. market, mine has been on Latin America — and together, we’ve built two strong and complementary businesses within the same industry.

I also want to give special thanks to my sister, Dolly Jensen, who has been by my side through every chapter of this journey. Dolly has been one of my greatest supporters — always ready to listen, advise, and encourage me when challenges appeared. She’s not just my sister, but my confidant and cheerleader, and I’m so grateful for her unconditional love and faith in me.

I’m deeply thankful as well to all the optical professionals and clients who trusted me from the very beginning — many of whom have become close friends over the years. Their loyalty has been the heart of this business.

And I can’t forget my dedicated team and IT collaborators, who helped me bring my ideas to life when we launched MayoristasdeOpticas.com in 2007. I had the vision, but they had the technical expertise and patience to make it a reality.

Lastly, my family deserves immense credit for their patience and understanding throughout the long nights, risks, and sacrifices that come with entrepreneurship.

My success is not mine alone — it belongs to all of them. I’m forever grateful for their faith, love, and encouragement that keep me moving forward every single day.
