Today we’d like to introduce you to Donna Morris.
Hi Donna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Donna Morris. I grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. I was living with my mother who was a single parent, she had separated from my father due to physical abuse. My mother worked very hard to send me to school and she instilled in me to do my best and excel in everything I do. From an early age, I have always had a great love for books, yes! Reading was a great passion that I had, and I still do. My mother would ensure that I read aloud every night before going to bed, sometimes I would get slaps for not calling the words correctly. While I was attending primary school after doing the Common Entrance Examination, I was successful and was awarded a place in a prominent High School – Ardenne High. In 1986, during a week of prayer in our school auditorium, I made a commitment to become a Christian. Even though I was ridiculed by some of my classmates. I was convinced that I wanted to make this decision to serve the Lord. I became actively involved in the Interschool School Christian Fellowship. Very excited to share about my relationship with Christ, I would always share my faith with other teenagers. I became active in my local church by serving in the Sunday school department, choir ministry, youth department, and family fellowship.
My journey of seeking after God grew as I began a scripture drill study program, sharing scriptures and empowering others to encounter new depths in their faith. In this scripture program, friends and church family were very excited to join as we memorize and meditate on the word of God. My deep passion for reading books, writing thoughts, and sharing text messages to bring a word of hope to someone in need. The truth is I have a heart for young people as well, and ultimately mentored them.
What many people didn’t know was behind my life’s journey, is that when my father learnt that my mother was expecting me, he told her to “raffle me.” Which meant to abort me. However, my mother, whose unfailing love defined motherhood, was strong and determined to maintain a wealthy mind. So, she decided to keep me as there was a great purpose in my life. I had experienced rejection from birth, struggling with feelings of inadequacy, fears, limitations in the mind and struggling with knowing my worth. I was not even aware that I had seven siblings, due to the separation with my parents.
My new life in Christ has propelled me to renew my mind and I aspired to make something of my life.
My first full-time job was at a housing agency, where I worked for eight years. That organization was later liquidated.
Things got very difficult during this time, being without a job, but I trusted God to open that door of employment.
A friend I had known for many years one day reached out to me and said there was a temporary position available at her company. So, I applied for the position, interviewed, and was employed by Guardian Life Insurance. The company of choice in Jamaica for our insurance solutions, financial strength, and outstanding customer service delivery, I served in the underwriting department a few years before I got a permanent position. I was eventually redeployed to the customer service department where I connect with my purpose, and that includes serving customers and making a positive impact. It has always been my passion to serve people and add value to their lives.
In 2018, I was intentional in pursuing the Marriage Mentor Certification Course with The Institute of Marriage & Family affairs (TIMFA) U S A which I further advanced to the Master Mentor. As an ordained minister I believe in self-development so I equipped myself by getting training in the area of marriage as I am passionate about this ministry and faithfully serves at my local church.
In February 2021, I took a step of faith and enrolled in the nine weeks online Mind Renewal Course offered by the Restoration of the Breach without Borders. My encounter with that course has enlightened my understanding that the greatest war we will ever fight is that of the mind. The truth is, at the beginning of the course I did not know I had relations with a poor mindset; however, upon completion of the course my life was completely changed. For my final piece, I thought I was only submitting my operational manual, but God flipped the script and showed me the clear path that He was leading me to write a book. I became an Author. In 2021 I published my first book “Moved to a New Mindset “Free from Limitations, Rejections, and Fears” The book is aimed for those who desire to make that move of faith, break free from limitations in the mind and discover the powerful purpose for their lives. Moving to a new mindset will allow you to change the way you think. Years before my thoughts were transformed, “My husband and I had purchased our quad; however, for over two decades, we did not make any move to do home improvement.
Fortunately, on Sunday, December 3, 2017, Rev Kevon Vidal visited our church and delivered the sermon entitled, Today is the Day, New Beginning, it is Time to Shift” It was a now Word, and immediately, I was shifted to a new place in my mind.”
I believed the word and I answered the call for serious movements in my mind. Understand that once you are mentally emancipated you will always get up and get things done. The following day I visited the National Housing Trust, which is our Housing Agency in Jamaica to enquire about loans that were available to me. To my surprise, I was more than qualified; that is what limitations do, they bar you from a great future, my God.
The customer care officer was so appalled she exclaimed, ‘Where have you been? You are more than qualified”. I have come to face the reality that many times we receive the Word of God and do nothing, I want to encourage others to make the move just like I did. It is time to believe that a new mindset is possible. I have battled with so many doubts in my mind that I have been stuck in one place.
I am giving God thanks for all the good things he has been doing for me. I can testify that limitations and fears will cause you not to accomplish your goals or to fulfill purpose. The truth is God wants us to live a complete life, but we have to move in faith. Be deliberate about pursuing your purpose. Yes! Get some information or ask questions, it is just that simple. It is time to get up in your mind and MOVE!
Being stuck in limitations can rob many years from your life. I have embraced a new way of thinking. Moved to a New Mindset will assist every reader to refuse a mind that is impoverished and choose one that is wealthy. You can be bold in standing against negative thoughts. Do not settle for a life of mediocrity.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not a smooth road.
Dealing with insecurities, and doubts, fearful of stepping out of my comfort zone. (Just did not have the courage to move in faith)
Struggling with limitations in the mind has kept me back from achieving my goals.
Discovering that there was an error on the building plan, the building permit expired.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
