Today we’d like to introduce you to Djenane Gourgue.
Hi Djenane, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Djénane Gourgue, and I have been working as a community advocate since 1997. Over the years, I developed a strong background in financial literacy, tax education, and financial compliance, particularly within underserved and minority communities.
Throughout my career, I have worked with individuals, families, entrepreneurs, and small businesses to help them better understand taxes, budgeting, and the importance of financial responsibility and compliance. My work has also extended into community advocacy through several organizations, where I’ve promoted financial education, economic empowerment, and access to resources that help people build long-term stability.
Today, in addition to my work in communications and community engagement, I continue to advocate for financial literacy and compliance as key tools for personal and business success.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has not always been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs and community advocates, I faced challenges balancing business, family, and community responsibilities while navigating constantly changing tax laws and financial regulations.
One of the biggest struggles was educating people on the importance of financial compliance and long-term financial planning, especially in communities where there can be fear, misinformation, or lack of access to trusted resources. Building trust took time, consistency, and patience.
There were also challenges as a woman entrepreneur working to establish credibility in financial services and community leadership spaces. But those experiences strengthened my resilience and deepened my commitment to financial literacy, advocacy, and helping others create stability and opportunities for themselves and their families.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Afro Caribbean Groove LLC
is a public relations, community engagement, and cultural marketing company focused on amplifying Caribbean culture, creativity, and community impact. Our work sits at the intersection of communications, business development, culture, and social impact.
We specialize in public relations, event promotion, strategic partnerships, community outreach, and culturally competent marketing. Over the years, we have worked with entrepreneurs, nonprofits, artists, chambers of commerce, and community organizations to help them strengthen their visibility, connect authentically with diverse audiences, and create meaningful engagement.
What sets us apart is that we don’t just promote events or brands — we help create purpose-driven movements and community-centered experiences. Our approach is deeply rooted in cultural understanding, relationship building, and real community impact. We understand how to connect with multicultural audiences in ways that feel authentic and respectful.
One of the things I am most proud of is our ability to bridge business and community. Whether through financial literacy initiatives, cultural events, women empowerment programs, youth engagement, or advocacy campaigns, our goal has always been to create platforms that uplift and empower others.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I believe risk is necessary for growth, but I also believe in taking calculated risks. Throughout my journey as an entrepreneur, tax professional, and community advocate, many of the biggest opportunities came from stepping outside of my comfort zone and believing in a vision before there was a guarantee of success.
One of the major risks I took was transitioning from simply providing financial and tax services into building a broader community engagement and public relations platform through Afro Caribbean Groove LLC
. It meant investing time, energy, relationships, and resources into creating something purpose-driven that combined business, culture, advocacy, and community impact. There were moments of uncertainty, especially when balancing entrepreneurship with community work, but I believed there was a real need for culturally connected communication and leadership.
I also believe there is risk in staying comfortable. Many communities struggle because people are afraid to take chances, speak up, start businesses, or invest in themselves. For me, risk is not about being reckless — it is about being strategic, informed, and willing to move forward even when the path is not fully clear.
The key lesson I’ve learned is that resilience matters just as much as risk-taking. Not every idea works perfectly, but every experience teaches you something valuable that helps you grow stronger and wiser in business and in life.
