Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Meat.
DJ, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started off DJing in Stripclubs in 2007 at Cocos Gentlemen club. DJing has always been my passion. Before my transition into the club atmosphere, I was already a local DJ in the city. After years of putting in the groundwork to build my brand, traveling to different cities, networking… we are here today. I decided to step into the mixtape circuit in 2012 with my Stamped N Da Streetz Mixtape series, which opened up doors and created relationships with a lot of artists. Stamped N Da Streetz Mixtapes became the gateway for a lot of artists to be heard. SNDS grew from a mixtape brand to now a whole movement of having a voice and being CERTIFIED by the streets. Stamped N Da Streetz Inc creation stemmed from the success of the mixtapes. Now, SNDS has different departments… DJs, Models, Promotions & SNDS Radio. I always wanted to help other DJs and artist like myself, who had to create a lane for themselves.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No, not at all! But it was worth it! I can recall my laptop bag getting stolen multiple times, twice out of the club I was working at. Times where I’ve been short stopped by other DJs for my spot. Relationships with an artist that don’t go as planned. I try not to let things to me, keeping a positive outlook on situations.
Stamped N Da Streetz – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Club DJ, Mixtape DJ. Also, I’m known for turning up the strip clubs “The Strip club King”. When I get on, I try to come with a different energy. I’m pretty good at reading people so I get intuned with the audience. I’m able to scan a room and know what the vibe is. I also run a weekly radio show on SNDS Radio where I highlight independent artist and entrepreneurs.
Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
I was always into music growing up. I loved school, computers, and anything dealing with technology.
